Engines are Running Again At Putnam County Speedway | By Craig Stern
There is no doubt that a grey cloud hangs over Putnam County Speedway but with every obstacle it seems to be making everyone even more determined as everyone throws in a helping hand to make Putnam County not only open but also to be Florida Favorite track once again.
Saturday was a busy day for not only Putnam County Speedway but for racers all over Florida with two big races going on in the state, attendance was still excellent, bringing in more then 80 people in total and more then 4 dozen phone calls from people that could not attend due to other racing agendas. This event was planned for 1pm to 5pm on Saturday and we were all very surprised to see people showing up as Early as 11:00am.
The tech shed was busy as race cars rolled in the tech area for a pre inspection by Bill Fisher. Bill Performing safety inspection to assist drivers in making sure that when they return they will not be delayed pulling on Putnam County Speedway on opening day on May 10th ( Next Saturday ). It seemed Bill Fisher had his own fan club by the tech area.
Over behind the grandstands we had another meeting going on with the newly formed Board Of Drivers to finalize some odds and ends before the track opens next week. Drivers, Car Owners, Sponsors, and investors all involved in the final steps of rules before the cars hit the race track.
Management of PCS also came over to meeting to repeat the to everyone there that " Putnam County Speedway will not cater to one driver or team, once this rules are set, they are set for the year, Period!" The board also worked on methods that will draw racers to Putnam County Speedway from surrounding tracks, things like, if a driver races at a nearby track and he wants to race at Putnam was is the fastest, most cost effective way to allow them drivers to do that.
The board seems to be helping in not only assisting the drivers but also promoting the track. One important thing that was discussed is that The Street Stock class will now be known as Sportsman. Please be sure to contact the Speedway for your rules in these classes.
Putnam County Speedway will announce a Sunday a " PAY THROUGHTOUT THE ENTIRE FIELD" payout system and they will not hide the payouts, they will be posted for everyone to see at http://putnamcountyspeedway.com . They are making a note of not hiding anything especially important payout information. PCS is also getting going to post the Rules and regulations on there website for people that do not have they and I was told this will be done very shortly.
May 10th 2008 will be the opening night at Putnam County Speedway, Racing Classes on May 10th will be as follows: Late Models, Sportsman ( Formerly Known as Street Stocks),Pure Stocks, Hobby Stocks, and 4 Cylinder Bombers.
