IT'S TIME TO RACE!!
August 18, 2008
DAVID CLEGG WINS AT VOLUSIA SPEEDWAY PARK
Shelley Doyle

It was dirt racing at its best as the drivers and fans waited out the rain for a great night of racing. The school supply drive was a big success and Volusia Speedway would like to thank all the fans and drivers who participated.

David Clegg won the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Late Model Feature. The green flag dropped as the field battled 3 & 4 wide for positions. Matt Hartley took the lead over Wayne Shugart on lap 2, as he fought off the high pressure moves of Jason Davis who was using the low groove in his quest for the top spot.

Lady Luck again did not shine on Hartley as he had to pit with car troubles. The restart brought a fast action battled between Lawton Minchew and Clegg for the lead with Minchew becoming the victory.

Minchew fought off the field until an altercation with Clegg on the white flag lap, gave Clegg the lead and the win. Top Ten: David Clegg, John Rankin, David Shugart, Joe Kump, Richard Ferry, Jeff Phipps, Wayne Shugart, Travis Varnadore, Chris McCook, Tracy Butler

“Shady” Grady Christianson ran a green to checkered finish taking the Street Stock feature win.

Christianson took the lead as the field fought 2 & 3 wide for positions. Robert Hicks, Randy Strehle, Alan Peacock, Shane Williams tried to force an error from Christianson but none was to be made as he sailed on for the victory.

Top Ten: Grady Christianson, Robert Hicks, Randy Strehle, Alan Peacock, Charles Christianson, Ron Koch, Mark Maresca, Mick Kulak, Jason Shreve

Jamie Carter wins another Budweiser Modified feature. It was fast action as the field took the green flag. Jason Davis jumped to the lead with Carter, Billy Boyd Jr., Jim Passino, Charlie MacNichol on his heels.

There we no room for mistakes as everyone battled 3 & 4 wide. Carter took the lead as Davis pit temporarily for a tire. Davis made it back onto the end of the field as the green flag flew. Davis buried the hammer down, weaving in and out of track, left front tire never touching the track as he caught up the to the lead pack.

Carter pulled out all the stops as he eluded Davis for the top spot, held on till the checkered was thrown.

Top Ten: Jamie Carter, Jason Davis, Charlie MacNichol, Chuck Gustafson, Gary Sexton, Jimmy Carter, Larry Mott, Darron Smith, Dale Murray, Barry Sheffield

Travis” The Terror” Staats took another green to checkered win in the RBC Mini Stock feature.

Staats jumped to the lead as he fought off his father Charlie Staats, Dan Kerr, Blake Spencer and the field riding his bumper. The Staats clan battled each other for several laps until Travis took off leaving his dad and the field behind taking another win.

Top Ten: Travis Staats, Charlie Staats, Dan Kerr, Richard Wells, Blake Spencer, Richard Keith, Philip Vibert Jr., Marsha Hedrick, Merick Varnadore, Sebastian Peterson

Scott Mooers won this 2nd Aerotec Aluminum 4-cylinder feature. Tim Shull jumped to the early lead as Mooers, Ray Hunter, Ron Pal, Mike Corcoran and the field battled 3 & 4 wide. It was bumper to bumper action, paint swapping racing as everyone fought for positions. Mooers had the petal to the metal as he passed Shull at the high way mark and held on until the checkered was thrown.

Top Ten: Scott Mooers, Tim Shull, Ray Hunter, Sony Espy, Ashley Espy, Ron Paul, Danny Lunn, Mike Corcoran, Casey Feaster, Jamie Anderson
