Richard Ferry Wins Late Model Feature at VSP
Fans crowded into the speedway in anticipation of a spectacular night of racing and they were not denied. It was a night of first, as several drivers won for the first time in the 2008 season as well as the First Weiner National event during intermission. Fans lined the track as 8 beautiful dachshunds raced for their chance to be the first every winner of the Weiner National at Volusia Speedway Park.

The dachshunds: Rosie, Snoop, Willy, Bruiser, Sugar, Harley, Dexter, Cena took to the track with their owners to participant in two
heats then a feature. The owners lined up at different ends of the 50 foot course. The flag was dropped and the wieners took off. The top 3 transferred into the feature with “Cena” taking the win. Snoop was
awarded the slower dog of the event, as she took her time getting to the finish line, allowing everyone to get a good look at her beautiful self. Willy was a fan favorite, who won his heat then finished 2nd in the feature.

Angels Have Whiskers animal rescue visited the track with several animals up for adoption which gave the fans a chance to bring a dog home. Several were adopted and we thank all the fans for their help
in saving these wonderful lost animals. Next week it’s “Rasslin and Racing, as the FWA wrestlers come to VSP. It will be two shows for the price of one.

Richard Ferry won his first Daytona Dodge Chrysler Late Model feature of the 2008 season. Rob Underwood took the lead with Lawton Minchew, Ferry, Wayne Shugart and the remaining field hooked to his bumper. They battled 3 & 4 wide on the back stretch fighting for positions. Ferry powered past Underwood on lap 4, while Jeff Hunter reined them both in making it a 3 way battle for first. Hunter and Ferry, stretched out their lead as they battled side by side, switching the top spot for several laps.

One would go high the other low. Ferry used the high side got past Hunter and never looked back until the checkered was thrown. Top Ten: Richard Ferry, Robert Underwood, David Shugart, Jeff Hunter, Lawton
Minchew, Stephen Castleberry, Andy Schell, Tom Hunter, Joe Kump, Howard Stalls.

Randy Strehle won the Street Stock feature making it his first win of the 2008 season. It was a 4 wide battle as the entire field swapped paint racing for position as the green flag dropped. Steve Mooers came
out on top but it was short lived as Strehle moved past him for the lead. Strehle was a man on a mission as he stretched out his lead over the field as they fought for positions. Alan Peacock, Richard Price and Robert Hicks made it a 3 wide battled for 3rd as they tried to catch the leader. Strehle put distance between himself and the field until the checkered was thrown. Top Ten: Randy Strehle, Richard Price, Tim Hughes, Robert Hicks, Steve Mooers, Pat Buckley, Alan Peacock, Casey Watson, Ron Koch, Mick Kulak.

Charlie Staats won another RBC Bank Mini Stock feature. Travis Staats jumped to the lead but his father soon took the top spot and held on until the checkered was thrown. The field battled 2 wide but nobody
could get near the senior Staats as he took the win. Top Five: Charlie Staats, Travis Staats, Tommy Saunders, Nick Kerr.

Corey Holley won his first Taylor Racing Products Sportsmen feature for the 2008 season. Holley powered past Bobby Richardson for the top spot on lap 2, put the petal to the metal as he put some distance between him and the field. It was a 3 way fierce battle between Richardson, Trevor Gamble and Garret Stewart for the 3rd position. Pat Vareika and Shaun Daugharty raced side by side for 2nd, giving the leader a chance to expand his lead over the field. Holley’s fans cheered as he crossed the first line and took a well deserved
win: Top Ten: Corey Holley, Shaun Daugharty, Garret Stewart, Trevor Gamble, Bobby Richardson, Pat Vareika, Ronnie Ponce, Tim Miller, David Foster Jr., Matt Johnson.

Scott Mooers won his first Aerotec Aluminum 4 Cylinder feature for the 2008 season. Mark Comitale jumped to an early lead as the field fought bumper to bumper, 5 wide for positions. Mooers took the top
spot after Comitale was hindered with car troubles. Mooers held on until the checkered was thrown. Top Ten: Scott Mooers, Tim Shull, Casey Feaster, RJ Glaser, Gerhard Haas, Ashley Espy, Leonard Underwood
JR, Davey Wolf, Allan Espy, Danny Lunn.
