TWO DAYS OF WET AND WILD FINISHES AT CCMP
By Linda Jericka

Friday night was a night planned for the backbone classes (the drivers that support the track on a weekly bases) so when the rains came the track did what they could to get the races in.

The Fab 4 class was up first with 11 cars taking the green. The 69 car driven by Jimmy Wilkers out of Naples, jumped out in front and seemed to have a fast car as he lapped all but three cars. The 20 car of Billy Benoit, who was coming off his first win last week had his sights on that 69 car and followed him lap after lap till he could get to his bumper, when Benoit saw the two to go sign, that’s when he made his move and was in the lead for the white and checker, making this two wins in a row for the young Billy Benoit out of Buckingham. Jimmy Wilkens would come in second, and the 32 of Ronald Hand, who has been getting faster every week, would finish third.

The Legends had two nights of racing with the 6 of Josh Williams from
Port Charlotte winning the feature Friday night and looking like it would be a clean sweep for Williams till the 2 of Codey Benoit passed Williams for the lead to take the win in the Legends on Sat.

There were 17 Road Warriors that would take the green for fifty laps of beating and banging and three wheeling " had to be there to explain it" racing. When all the dust settled it was the 93 of Jeff Firestine that crossed the line first with team mate Dean Butrum second and the 29 of Don Jericka third.

David Amelotte won the pro 4 race, Derrick Horton was second, and Alex Patten was third.

Saturday seemed to be a replay of Friday when the rains came so once
Again. The track had to be dried and went right into features.

The Thunder Trucks were up first with Randy Kile the winner, Ray Jayne second, and James Wright third.

Super Late Models came out for their 100 lap race, which started off with the " big one" on lap five, when coming down the back stretch and with several versions of what happened, the end result was the 8 car of Sean Lemaster sitting on top of the 28 car of Billy Bigley Jr and the 38 of C.J. Calabrese up in the wall. It took a while to get back to green since the 28 and 8 had to be taken off on flat-beds, but all drivers were ok.

When things got back under way, Kevin Macy who had been leading the first twenty five laps, had to give way to clearly the two fastest cars out there which was the 84 of Wayne Anderson of Wildwood and the 55 of Scott Walters of Naples. It was close between Anderson and Walters till the end, several times Walters would get to the bumper of Anderson, but for some reason Anderson was getting more grip from his tires in the turns.

On lap 100, it was Wayne Anderson first Scott Walters second and 46 of J.R. Garcia third.

Mini Stock winner was Ricky Bullard of Arcadia, Todd Freed second and Joe Rice third.

Florida Suncoast Outlaw Street Stock would be the last race of the night for fifty laps or 11:30, whichever came first and to everyone’s surprise it was fifty laps, which ended in disappointment for the 9 car of Vernon Hart, who for forty seven laps, was chasing the leader down in a caution free race till lap forty seven.

The 2 of Bobby Fischer clearly had an advantage being in the lead with no cautions to tighten up the field over the 9 of Vernon Hart who seemed to have lap cars interfere with him each time he got close to Fischer. When on lap forty seven, with lap traffic finally out of the way, Hart had a good run on Fischer and went for the pass coming down the back stretch, when the 2 of Fischer sent Hart up into the outside wall that ended Hart and Fishers night, leaving the track on the hook with three laps to go.

Darrin Ellis, who was running in third, took over the lead when the green came back out and the 2X of Robert Crisp would finish second, with the 30A of Richie Crisp third.
