Steve Miller takes Checkered Flag in Late Model Feature

Around 100 cars signed in to race on another hot Saturday night on the Clay by the Bay. The weather was hot but the racing action on the track was even hotter as fans packed the stands for another memorable night of racing at East Bay Raceway Park.
The Outlaw 4’s started the feature portion of the evening off with their 15-lap feature event. Points leader Jim Coursen started near the back of the field and quickly made his way to the front. With Jerry Bruce running in the 3rd spot Coursen and Chad Rose made contact bringing out the caution flag. That gave the lead to Bruce who had a strong car all night. Bruce would end up holding off the challenge of Matt Haynes to take his 2nd win of the season. Haynes finished 2nd. Shane Burrows who went to the back of the field after a mid-race caution finished 3rd. Michael Gulvin finished 4th and Mickey Wright rounded out the top-5. Mavrick Varnadore and Burrows won the heat races.
In the Motorstats.com Street Stocks Buck Skinner started in the 10th position and took the win. It was his 4th of the season. Points leader Donnie Reed started 12th and was able to race his way to a 2nd place finish. Danny Hill finished 3rd. Buck Woodhouse battled for the lead in the early laps finished 4th. James Hook came home in the 5th position. Ron Abney and Hill won the heat races.
The Late Models were back in action again with another great field of drivers. Steve Miller started near the front of the field in the 3rd position. Jeff Matthews led the early laps until a mechanical problem sent him to the pits and ended his night. Steve Miller assumed the lead and never looked back. If he had looked back he would have seen an awesome battle for the 2nd position between Roger Crouse and David Schmauss during the middle part of the race which raged on for around 10 laps. Through numerous restarts near the end of the race Miller held of the hard charging Crouse to take the win. Crouse finished 2nd. Travis Varnadore ran in the top 5 most of the night and finished 3rd. Paul Gibbs started in the 15th spot and captured a 4th place finish, his first top 5 of the season. KD Kelley started in the 11th position and finished 5th. Schmauss, JR Prather, Jr. and Crouse won the heat races.
In racing sometimes a car change works for a multi-car team, this was the case in the Convire 4 cylinder bombers. There was a Kruse in victory lane once again in the car #238. Except it was Kyle Cruse taking the victory in the car his brother Collin usually races. It was Kyle Cruse’s second win of the season. Collin did not have a bad night either as he finished in the 2nd position in the car that Kyle usually drives. Kever Raulerson finished in the 3rd spot. Frank Miller was 4th. George Chrisitiansen, Sr. carried the flag for the “Odessa Flash” bunch as he finished 5th. Raulerson and George Christiansen, Jr. won the heats.
The Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds were a victim of Mother Nature as their 15-lap feature was postponed due to rain.
