IT'S TIME TO RACE!!
June 7, 2008
Bowers Returns to Victory Lane at BMS
By John Meeks- Speedway Media

The “Grassroots” racing program at Bronson Motor Speedway is really beginning to come around! There is a sense as you walk through the pit area of appreciation for the local driver’s opportunity. It is not very often that the local racer is truly in the spotlight. When you talk to the competitors and their crews they all race about the chance to electrify the crowd with their on track heroics. Again this week the local “heroes” were in the spotlight and put on some spectacular racing. As part of the “Grassroots” racing, adult admission in the grandstands is only $ 10.00 and kids 11-under are free! It really is an opportunity for a night of family fun that is affordable.

In the racing action, the Hornet Division gets better every week! Now that there is a solid field of cars, the competitors are beginning to really get into the racing. Daniel Cummings dominated the Rear Wheel Driver Hornets to capture another win. Another second generation driver, Tommy Ausburn, Jr. would make his racing debut on the track in his new # 69 machine. The Front Wheel Drive Hornets have produced a different winner every week and this week Robert Edwards would take home the victory!

The Thunder Stock Division provided the crowd with some fireworks early. The rear tire came off Howard Brody’s # 30 machine showering the track with sparks. Once the race was restarted, Eric Gellman held off a late charge from Larry Welter, Jr. to secure his first win of the season.

Brent Cooper was victorious again in the Super Stock Division. There was great racing for second on back by all the other racers. Larry Welter, Jr, Frank Stromquist, Tommy Ausburn and Larry Welter, Sr. raced side by side for several laps, sometimes going three wide! In the end, Larry Welter, Jr. came home second and Frank Stromquist would have to settle for third.

The most excitement of the evening was the Limited Sportsman 30 lap feature. The usual suspects, Matt Blum, Shelton Bowers, William Edwards and Mike Baker put on one heck of a show! The top four cars ran nose to tail all race long. For most of the race it appeared the other drivers were waiting to make their move. At the end, Shelton Bowers held off all challengers to post another win. Matt Blum would take home second and Mike Baker third.

Next Saturday Night Father’s Day will be celebrated with a “Best Dad” Contest, so bring Dad out to the speedway! And it’s KIDS BIKE RACES! Kids bring your bike and a helmet and you can race on Bronson Motor Speedway! Adult admission only $ 10.00 and kids 11-under are free! Gates open at 5:30 and racing begins at 7:30!

Mark your calendars for the Politicians Rally on Saturday Night – June 21. Plan to come out and meet your local candidates! For more information, contact the speedway at 352-486-2763.
