Wayne Morris Inherits the Win after David Wilson Disqualified in Tech
By Phil Schryver
Bradenton, FL - ASA Sanctioned Track, Desoto Super Speedway had a packed house last night for a full lineup of features including the Turner Tree and Landscape Limited Late Models, Desoto Trucks, Magic Fours, School Bus Figure 8’s, and many more.
One of the main features of the night was the Limited Late Models. Twenty One Late Models had signed in from all over Florida, including a couple from the Miami area. David Wilson got the fast time in qualifying, followed by Wayne Morris, and Cody Pitts.
Before the start of the race, there was a 5 car inversion, putting the #19 of Kevin Macy on the pole. After the green flag dropped, David Wilson quickly made his way through the field to take the lead. Following close behind was the #21 of Ronnie Skipper, the #56 of Morris, and the #19 of Macy. By lap 37, Wilson had a sizeable lead on the rest of the field, but everyone else were still nose to tail, battling for position. Lap 40 brought out the 4th caution of the night with some fluid on the track. The #19 was checked out, but was found to be ok.
On the restart, Wilson charged ahead of the field once again. By lap 50, the #83 of Wilson was a good 15 plus car lengths ahead of the field, until the #5 of Steve Gill got real loose coming out of turn 2 and spun out on the back stretch. By lap 75 the battle to watch was mid-pack between the #46 of Doug Moff, the #98 of Lonny Miller, and the #81x of AJ Isbister, all banging door to door, sometimes 3 wide.
Lap 78 brought out the 6th caution of the night, and on the restart, the #56 of Morris was able to stay with Wilson for a while. The 7th caution of the night was caused by the #12 car of Mike Franklin JR, when he connected with the wall in turn 2 hard. His night was over. On the restart, the #5 car of Steve Gill flew over the side of the #81x of Isbister. Both cars had to retire for the night after that collision.
The final restart of the night, lap 92, had heated battles going on throughout the field, especially mid pack again. Wilson was able to jump way out ahead of Morris and finished in 1st place. Unfortunately for Wilson, post race tech did not go well, and he was disqualified, giving the #56 of Wayne Morris the win for the night.
In the Magic 4 Class, 16 yr old Jessica Ostrovskis, brought home her 4th win of the year, and 3rd straight win. She also took over the points lead.
In the Desoto Trucks, Charlie Montgomery had the fast time in qualifying. Before the start of the 50 lapper, we had a 5 truck inversion, putting Gary Foxworth on the pole. Charlie Montgomery, the current point’s leader, led most of the race, but had to drop out near the end. Danny Anderson in the #50 brought home the win.
19 School Busses were on hand for some wild and crazy Figure 8 racing. The crowd loved the action with lots of close calls in the middle of the x. The #14 of Art Calkins and the #4 of Ernest Helfrick were battling for the lead until they collided over in turn 3, both slamming into the wall and ending their nights early.
This Saturday Desoto Super Speedway takes a night off of Stock Car Racing, but will have Truck and Tractor Pulls. May 3rd Desoto Super Speedway will have Guitars and Stock Cars. You can enjoy a full night of racing action, PLUS a live Country Western Concert featuring: Eric Church, an up in coming artist with multiple hits currently on the radio.
