Crisp by a Bumper over Lau in Outlaw Street
By Rick Anges

Bradenton, Fl. Twenty-four cars lined up for the
second show of the season for the Outlaw Street Stock
fifty lapper and from the drop of the green flag there
was action all over the track.

Mike LaPlant led the early stages of the race but it
didn’t take long for Robert Crisp to power the “Rocket
Red Motorsports” machine to the front of the pack.
Crisp had won the last race for the OSS’s at Charlotte
the week before and was looking for two in a row.

DeSoto Pure Stock point’s leader Tyler Lau surprised
everyone as he made his way up into the second spot.
Earlier in the evening Lau lost a tire in the Pure
Stock feature. As the tire flew over the fence and
into the pits Lau made contact with the backstretch
wall. Parts and gear lube were strewn across the track
ending his run for the feature. But some heavy
thrashing in the pit brought him out for the Outlaw
race and up into the second spot.

Crisp kept his line as Lau sized him up for a pass but
each time Crisp was able to foil the run. As the two
crossed the stripe for the white flag Lau slung his
car on the outside of the leader. Pulling him down the
backstretch the two held their lines going into three.
Coming out of four they touched and with the fans
cheering and on their feet they were almost a dead
heat at the line.

As the two pulled into the winners circle neither was
sure who had won. “I don’t care who won that was a
great race,” said Lau. The finish had to be determined
by the video in the tower and by a bumper Crisp was
declared the winner in an exciting finish.
