Scofield Nabs Third AACS Championship
McLeod and Scofield Winners in Twin 125’s

By Rick Anges

Bradenton, Fl. Jeff Scofield came into the nights
racing action leading David Pollen Jr. by just over
140 points. The reason for running Twin 125 lap races
was due to the previous races rain out. The drivers
themselves voted to run the two races. B.J McLeod was
fast qualifier for the rained out portion of the
nights Twin 125 lap “Hoosier Cup” All American
Challenge Series races. Following McLeod in the top
five were David Pollen Jr., “Big Daddy” Dave Pletcher,
Jeff Scofield and Troy McNabb.

In qualifying for race number two (which would be the
final race of the ’07 season) Anthony Campi surprised
everyone by rolling out first on the grid and running
a time that no one in the field was able to top.
Following Campi in qualifying was McLeod, Pollen,
Pletcher and Scofield. *Note; Scofield qualified the
“Red” 07 machine, his back up car for race two.

The drama started early when the die roll for race
number one was a four putting Scofield on the point.
Several races this year saw Scofield drive away from
the rest of the field after starting on the pole. But
tonight he was given the option of starting from the
rear of the pack for an extra $1,000 if he could win
the race potentially giving him the chance to win
$4,000 if he could cross the checkers first. Scofield
accepted the challenge and dropped to the back of the
pack.

The points leader put on a show as he weaved his way
through the pack moving into the top five and closing
in on the leader McLeod. When it looked like Scofield
would easily take the $4,000 prize money a tire
separated sending him head on into the turn one wall
just before the 40 lap mark. The car was destroyed and
ended his night.

B.J. McLeod was able to lead David Pollen Jr. to the
checkered flag for his second win of the season.
Pollen was able to close in to 102 points of Scofield
going into the second race by finishing second. Richie
Anderson made his return to the seat with a solid run
in the third spot, fourth went to Dave Pletcher and
rounding out the top five was Anthony Campi.

Three came up on the die for race number two of the
night putting second in points Pollen on the pole. He
wasted no time in jumping out to the lead and pulled
away from the field for most of the race. Early in the
run it looked like Scofield was points racing as he
waved Pletcher by happy with just a fifth place run.
But this was the plan.

Just before the 100-lap mark Scofield began his run to
the front. After giving B.J. a couple of bumps he was
able to get around the second place car but still had
a long run to catch the leader Pollen. But lap after
lap he drew closer and on lap 116 was able to get by
and cruise to his final win of the 07 season and take
an unprecedented third championship.

Pollen who had a great season finished second on the
track and in the championship run. Third went to
McLeod, fourth was Joe Winchell and fifth Richie
Anderson.
