New Hendry County Speedway Race Results For Saturday, 10/13/07
By Rob Kohler
Once again the Central Sheds and Trailers / Central Mobile Homes Challenge series brought their brand of excitement to Hendry County Speedway. Limited Late Model and Sportsman Division 5th leg of the six pack series. Open Wheel Modified Challenge series was on hand. The Florida Mini Sprints were there with local classes of Pure Stock and Mini Stock. Vendors lined up with great food and racing goodies. The show was a night to remember.
Three heat races of Limited Lates. Tim Powers won along with Joe Henke and Tommy Evonoski. The feature was exciting to watch as 17 cars took the track for the start. Tommy Evonoski led the first 3 laps of the feature. Crouse made the pass but lost the lead due to the caution flag. After the restart Crouse was able to get by and lead for a couple of laps before Tim Powers came along and stole the show. Somewhere before the half way point of the 30 lap race, Powers' car started to look a bit low in the front left corner. Dragging the nose of the car around the corners did not seem to slow him down. Restart after restart he continued to pull away unreachable by the rest of the field. A great battle shaped up behind him as Forest Gaugh caught and passed Crouse for 2nd while the two were working through lapped traffic. Crouse got back around before the checker flag was thrown. Tim Powers goes on to win despite a wedge bolt malfunction on the left front. Roger Crouse finished 2nd. Forest Gaugh settled for the 3rd spot. Ron Schron and Thomas Scott rounded out the top five.
Open Wheel Modifieds were split in to 2 heats. Roger Crouse won the first one. Tommy Kelly took the second heat. Roger Crouse was the man to beat for the entire feature. John Bradley ran 2nd for most of the race, but trouble for him late in the race wound him up in the 5th spot. Chad Hadlick had been running 3rd for most of the race, but when the checkers waived he had to settle for the 4th spot. Billy Boyd Sr. had been battling with Alex Borner for most of the race. A late race spin for Borner gave Boyd a chance to break free and capture the 3rd spot. Tommy Kelly started on the front row and was sent to the rear after a first lap caution. He battled his way back to the 2nd spot. Roger Crouse leads the point series and also led at the checker flag.
The Mini Sprints are the fastest division to race at our speedway. The two heat races went smoothly with wins coming for T.J. Raymond and Chris Pacetti. John Craddock led a lap of the feature before Andrew Griffin took over for the next ten laps. T.J. Raymond had been patiently waiting for his chance to take the lead. On lap 12 he got what he had been waiting for. Once in the lead Raymond could not be caught. After the feature win he told me that he had taken a deposit on the car and would not likely be back to race with us again for awhile. Andrew Griffin earned the 2nd spot. A driver with no number on his car and no mention on the driver list for the class managed a 3rd place finish. Who comes to a race track with no number on their car? Jesse Teed ended the night in 4th. Russ Heider was 5th.
An exciting Pure Stock heat race was won by Chad Carver. He held of four different cars along the way to that win. Positions behind him were changing 2 or 3 times a lap. The track was great for side by side racing in that division. Some really great racing has been going on in this class all season. Starting from the 2nd row in the feature, Brian Morgan Led the first lap. Tommy Hill got around a few laps later to lead for awhile before Morgan recaptured the spot. With only 5 laps to go, Gary Champion took the lead position. Champion would go on to win his 2nd feature in a row. Morgan held on for the 2nd spot. Jonny Mosely ran 3rd. Chad Carver would race hard and finish 4th after a long battle with Tommy Hill 5th.
Mini Stock racing has been getting better and better. Some really close racing has made this a fun class to watch. Jason Intoppa outran the field in the heat race. S.C. Klinger had his Mini Mod in the field starting in the rear of the feature. He worked his way into the lead by lap 5 but was not being scored with the Mini Stock Division. Jason Intoppa battled with Brian Bail For the win in the feature. Bail had to settle for 2nd but leads the point series for the class. Chase Goodson drove for Josh Intoppa and scored him 3rd place points. Shal Retenour drove to a 4th place finish. Last weeks feature winner Ron Dubeau did not make the call for the heat race. The car was off the pace all the way through the feature and he had to settle for 5th.
October 20th is driver appreciation night at Hendry County Speedway. All classes will be attending, with the exception of Sportsmen, who will race free on November 3. With only two races left in the point series, I expect a good turnout.
We'll see you there. Cow-Boy Out!!
