Severe Weather Stops the Show at Ocala
by BJ Cavin

As the crowd gathered at Ocala Speedway for another Friday night of racing, everyone was wary of the severe weather situation that had pounded Marion County the night before. But a look at the radar showed some isolated showers off to the east and not much else, so racing was a go.

However, as soon as the heat races were underway things began to change, and with three heat races left to run it became apparent that the weather situation had deteriorated quickly. What had been small showers had grown into a full blown mass of thunderstorms, and it was rapidly bearing down on Ocala Speedway from the south. As the last heat race was completed the rain began, and it came with a vengeance.

The plan was to ride out the rain and dry the track, then get back to racing. Radar indicated that once this storm blew through that all was clear behind it. But as it moved over the speedway the situation became quite dangerous with very little warning, with heavy lightning all around, torrential rain, and gusty winds.

At that point the decision was made to evacuate the grandstands and call it a night because of extreme lightning and gusty winds. So with all heat races complete for the night, an announcement was made that a schedule for make up feature events would be posted Monday at OCALASPEEDWAY.com, and all who bought 50/50 tickets should hold them until next Friday night.

The 50/50 money will be added to next week's pot and the tickets from this week will be entered in the drawing for next week's money. Unfortunately as the rules state, with the completion of the heat races it is considered to be a full night of racing and no wrist bands or ticket stubs will be honored next week.
