Bradenton, Fl. The heat was on at DeSoto Super Speedway as temperatures hovered in the 90-degree range. Some of the top names in Florida Super Late Model racing were on hand to take to the speedway for another edition of the Hoosier Cup All American Challenge Series.
Jeff Scofield has dominated the series taking three straight wins in a row at the “High-Banks” and had climbed up to second in the points behind David Pollen Jr. Pollen, in his first year of racing in the Super Late Model and has shown that he can handle his own against the best of the best.
The heat was on as the field rolled out for qualifying. Although the track was hot and a little slick “The Rocketman” Wayne Jefferson was back on top taking fast time for the night’s event. “Big Daddy” Dave Pletcher was second fast, Brad Bischoff returned to racing at DeSoto to take third fast, fourth was Billy Bigley Jr. and fifth fresh off his second place run in the ASA race at New Smyrna Jeff Choquette.
The field was inverted five cars by the roll of the die putting Choquette on the point with Bigley on the outside of the front row. Scofield would start from the sixth spot with Pollen in seventh.
The green dropped and it was Choquette taking the lead over the rest of the pack. Pletcher Bigley and Jefferson were meanwhile in a heated battle for the second spot.
Lap after lap they would swap spots as Choquette would pull away for a good lead. The race would only have two cautions through the 125-lap feature.
As the laps wound down Scofield and Pollen made their way past the rest of the field to move up into the second and third spot respectively. As Choquette maneuvered his way around lapped traffic Scofield closed in to make a run for the top spot. He would close in on the leader in turns three and four but on and two and on the straights Choquette would pull away.
Scofield would make one last run on the leader but the car almost came out from under him. He gathered it back up but lost too much ground allowing Choquette to take the win. “This car was great, it wasn’t that good earlier in the week but my crew really stepped up and made it work,” said Choquette.
Scofield who finished in the second said, “I wore this car out, I tried everything I could to catch Choquette. We tried bringing out a new car but still have a lot of work to go.” David Pollen Jr. finished in the third spot and with that finish will go into the next race with a tie for the top spot. Billy Bigley Jr. held on for the fourth spot and fifth was Wayne Jefferson.
