Scofield Makes it Two in a Row in
By Rick Anges

Bradenton, Fl. Twenty-one of the States fastest Super
Late Models signed in for race number five of the
“Hoosier Cup All American Challenge Series”.

The heat of the day saw a lot of drivers slipping and
sliding coming out of turn four during qualifying for
the night’s 125-lap feature. Billy Bigley Jr. was able
to keep the tires glued to the surface and pull off
his first fast time of the season cranking out a
14.603 time around the 3/8 miles High Banks.

Second fast was points leader” the Rocketman” Wayne
Jefferson, Jefferson already has three fast times on
the season. Third fast on the grid was last years
champion and current ASA Late Model racer Jeff
Choquette fourth was also an ASA racer David Pollen
fifth fast was Jeff Scofield.

The roll of the die was a six and once again put
former champ Jeff Scofield on the front row outside of
“Big Daddy” Dave Pletcher. The green dropped and
Scofield wasted no time jumping out to the lead. By
lap number ten the top five was Scofield, Choquette,
Pletcher, Bigley and Pollen.

Several cautions would bunch the field up for the
restarts but Scofields car was very strong on the long
green flag runs. The racing action heated up behind
him as Bigley was wasting no time making his way
towards the front.

Pletchers night meanwhile would end in a cloud of dust
in turn four due to mechanical woes. He would end up
sixteenth on the night.

Bigley would make his way up to the second spot past
Choquette and would close on Scofield on the early
laps of restarts but he would pull away as the race
would wear on. Choquette once again make a challenge
for the second spot on Bigley but on lap 84 the 70x
machine would slow and pull into the pits. Following
him into the pits was Steve Dorer who had made his way
to top five. But cars would retire with mechanical
problems.

Scofield would go on to take his second win in a row
with Bigley taking the second spot, third was Dwayne
Dempsey, fourth was Wayne Jefferson whose top five
finish left him still leading the points race, Sean
LeMaster had a good run in the fifth spot.
