Before Saturday night’s race, Robbie Storer said he likes Bronson Speedway.After the race, he likes it even more. Storer said that his racecar is better suited to tight racetracks. Saturday night he showed it.
Storer started off the evenings competition by setting fast time of 14.235 seconds. Just a tick behind was Robbie Yoakam at 14.311 seconds.
After tech and the draw for starting position, the field was set. The Florida Mini Stock Challenge rolled onto the track, with Jeff Barnes and Chris Hooker on the front row. Next in line was Storer and Cody Blair, followed by Jason Rendell, Raymond Folwell, James Ellis, Marty Neikens, Robby Yoakam and Rick Sirmans completing the top ten starters. Current points leader Chris Thornton elected to start from the rear.
When the green flag waved to start the 50 lap feature, the car of Folwell got loose off turn 4, and smacked the wall a pretty good lick, and was done fore the night. The next attempt at a start saw Barnes and Hooker race side by side for the lead. Hooker was able to get the lead off turn 4 and lead lap 1. Storer was right behind, waiting an opportunity to make a run at the lead. By lap 5 Rendell had moved into third ahead of Barnes, and was closing in on the leaders. Lap 9 has Storer driving under Hooker for the lead, and Yoakam moving into the top 5. Halfway had Storer holding a several car length lead over Hooker, and Yoakam and Rendell having a fierce battle for third spot. At this point, the several of the top runners started experiencing mechanical failures, with Sirmans , Yoakam, and Hooker all retiring from the race within a few laps of each other.
The race was relatively free of cautions, and Storer drove to a convincing win.Rendell finished a strong second, and Chris Thornton had a great run finishing third.
