Bradenton, Fl. Twenty-two Super late Models signed in for the “Hoosier Cup” All American Challenge Series. The times were all tight as the drivers were running in the 14.6-second range.
Scot Walters who has run in many NASCAR events including Busch and a full season of Craftsman Trucks blistered the speedway with a 14.51 second run to take fast time for the event. Another former Craftsman Truck racer Billy Bigley Jr. was second fast followed by Wayne Jefferson, B.J. McLeod and David Wilson to round out the top five.
Summer rain rolled in just as qualifying was wrapping up halting the action. The rain delay lasted almost three hours but just as quick as the rain came it stopped, the track was dried and the nights racing action continued.
Hoosier Cup AACS The field was inverted five rows by the roll of the die putting James Glover and Richie Anderson on the front row. The action started on the first lap as Anderson’s car slid up high going into turn one, as he tried to gather it up coming out of two he slid in front of the oncoming field causing everyone to get hard on the binders. Several cars made contact.
Everyone was able to continue except B.J.McLeod who has a solid run going in the championship points run. McLeod retired his ride before taking a green flag lap.
Young David Wilson is making a name for himself in the Super ranks with several solid finishes. With former teammates and veteran racers Dick Anderson and Jr. Purcell lending their expertise this young mans stock rises with every race.
Wilson took over the top spot and held off second place points holder Jeff Choquette for several laps before getting loose and allowing him to get by.
Wilson would have problems later in the race and finish thirteenth. Choquette took over the top spot but it wasn’t long before Walters caught him and moved by for the lead.
Billy Bigley Jr. also made the pass for the second spot. Although Bigley made several runs Walters was not to be denied as crossed the stripe to take his first win of 2006 season moving him into the top in the point’s race.
Bigley took the second spot, The 05 Limited Late Model Champion; Jessie Dutilly made his mark in the Supers with his first top three run. Choquette faded back to fourth and in the fifth spot Wayne Jefferson. Points leader Chris Fontaine battled an ill handling car but managed a sixth place run.
Clear Channel Bombers (Double Points)
Jerome “Slideways” Watland started one spot from dead last on the field to win the twenty-five lap Bomber feature event. “The Punisher” Michael Crooks took the second spot, third points leader “Radical” Rick Germony finished third, fourth went to “Dynamite” Dave Davis and in the fifth spot Scott Dawley.
