Bradenton, Fl. It was another Hot Summer night at “the South’s Fastest Short Track”. Over one hundred twenty cars signed in for the nights racing action.
Turner Tree and Landscape LLM Points leader and last race winner Steve Dorer was fast qualifier over the nineteen car field for the nights 100 lap feature event. Bobby Beauchemin, Mike Hovis, Mike Franklin Jr. and Steve Gill made up the rest of the top five.
The field was inverted four rows for the drop of the green flag and it was Tate Pierce taking the lead and holding for the first eighty-five laps. Hot on his heels was Mike Franklin Jr. who had won his first ever feature after many years of racing at DeSoto earlier in the season. It wasn’t long before Franklin had Dorer chasing him for the second spot.
Cautions were plenty as the yellow flew thirteen times over the course of the race. Pierce eventually lost the handle and Franklin was able to get by for the top spot with Dorer coming along with him. The final laps saw the top two cars going at it as Franklin did what he could to keep off fast qualifier Dorer. The final three laps were a barnburner as the duo made contact several times. The fans were on their feet as Dorer got under Franklin coming out of turn four to take the white flag. They touched right before the start/finish line sending Dorer spinning wildly into the infield. Dorer would end up ninth on the night.
Franklin went on to take the win, Pierce finished in the second spot, third went to Beauchimen, fourth was A.J. Curreli and in fifth Mike Hovis.
Powder Puff Bombers Mindy Mitchell won the fifteen lap ladies Powder Puff race in the Bomber cars over the twelve car field, second went to Ann Marie Watland, third was Brandi Brayley, fourth went to Kelli Santana and fifth Tabbatha Slack.
Powder Puff Pure Stocks Brandi Dutilly added another Dutilly name to winners circle as she dominated the fifteen-lap feature over the other eleven ladies. Second place was Kim Lau, third went to Crystal Tachtenborg, fourth Jessica Vigilo and in fifth Harriet Andries.
