Fontaine Blisters AACS Field
By Rick Anges

Bradenton, Fl. Although rains washed through just before race time the racers and crews of DeSoto Super Speedway ready to go when the sun came out and the pavement dried.

Qualifying for the AACS saw twenty of the states finest late models roll out. Jeff Scofield held fast time in a back up car provided by Joe Boyd until Florida racing ace Billy Bigley Jr. took the fast time.

“This car was destroyed at Lakeland in January but with the help of a lot of people we have it back out and it’s fast.”

Four rows were inverted for the start of the 125 lap feature putting Jeff Sloan and young gun David Wilson on the front row. When the green dropped though it was the cream of the crop coming to the front as Chris Fontaine powered his way to the front.

Fontaine was the class of the field as he was able to move out to a full straight away lead over the rest of the field. Several cautions bunched the field no one had anything for the flaming number 47. Behind him though there was plenty of action.

In the closing laps of the race David Wilson did everything he could to hold the veteran and fast qualifier Bigley. The former NASCAR racer had his hands full with the young racer. Eventually Bigley was able to get by Wilson for the second spot but there weren’t enough laps left to catch Fontaine.

Fontaine took his second win of the season and moved into the points lead over Jeff Choquette who ended up pulling into infield early into the race with an overheating problem. Second went to Bigley, third was Wilson who said, “Have to thank Jr. Purcell and Dicky Anderson for helping us with this car.” Fourth across the stripe was former NASCAR All-Pro driver Scot Walters, and finishing a solid fifth was B.J.McLeod.
