IT'S TIME TO RACE!!

"Punisher" Goes from Placer to Winner
By Rick Anges

Bradenton, Fl. Once again the weather looked bad everywhere around the speedway. Dark clouds were ominous and lighting bolts flashed everywhere. Would tonight be the first rain out of the year or were these just signs of the darkness to come.

Clear Channel Bombers Twenty-one cars rolled out for the twenty-five-lap feature and from the drop of the green flag the action was hot and heavy through out the field. Three and four wide racing was everywhere on the speedway.

Michael Crooks who has dubbed himself “the Punisher” and one of the leaders of “the Darkside” racing team methodically moved himself through the field. Crooks has had several finishes in the top three but never had taken the coveted win.

Crooks had destroyed his front running car earlier in the season and was all but done racing this year. But hard work and determination put the number 33 machine back on the track and running towards the front.

Once Crooks made the final pass to take over the lead all that hard work paid off as he cruised to his first ever checkered flag. “Pistol” Pete Barr took a hard fought second. In his first return since the fifty-lapper “Dynamite” Dave Davis showed he still had it finishing third after coming from way back in the field. Randy Johnson finished in the fourth spot and fifth went to Larry Brannon.

Q-Auto and Injury Attorneys Open Wheels Young Brad Bischoff’s move from karts to the high powered Open Wheels looks to be the right move as he held off the “Rocketman” Wayne Jefferson in the thirty five lap feature, to take his second victory of the season. Jefferson took a hard fought second over third place finisher John Sarppraicone Jr. Fourth across the striper was Ralph Bowman and fifth went to Eric Rudd over the seventeen-car field.

Magic 4’s Clay Joseph Jr. joined his father Clay Sr. taking his first ever victory in the 12-17 year old novice class. Shane “the Iceman” Yoder raced hard to take the second spot, third Bill Leake, fourth Chelsea Lajoie and fifth David Kimpton.
