Choquette Unstoppable at Desoto
By Rick Anges

Bradenton, Fl. - Race number six of the All American Challenge Series saw some really quick times during qualifying. Jeff Choquette took the fast time after thrashing on his car from a wreck in the previous night’s race at Orlando Speedworld.

The field was inverted four row by the roll of the die putting Chris Fontaine and Troy McNabb on the front row for the evenings 125 lap race. It took three tries to get the race underway and it was Perry Brown though who jumped out to early lead the lead. It wasn’t long before Fontaine made his way around to take the top spot. Fontaine had led the majority of laps in the last race and was looking like this would be his race.

There were several cautions during the early stages of the race but the running order stayed basically the same. It was during a close to fifty-lap green flag run that Jeff Choquette made his way through the field eventually moving into the second spot behind the hard charging Fontaine.

Fontaine had built up a good lead on the rest of the field but the yellow came out and bunched the field putting Choquette, who seems to have mastered the “Hugh Banks” of DeSoto Super Speedway right on his tail.

Choquette rode behind the leader and almost looked like he was going to settle for the second spot when coming out of turn four made his move on the outside.

The duo was side by side when they crossed the stripe with Choquette right up against the front stretch wall. Neither driver lifted and both went around in one. Fontaine backed into the wall but was able to continue Choquette suffered minor damage. The loser in all this was Perry Brown who had a solid third place run going. He also had contact with the wall and ended his night. Both drivers were given their spots back as it was judged a racing incident.

When the green dropped it was Choquette resuming where he left off and eventually powered by Fontaine for the lead and then put it on cruise control and took his fourth win out of six races in the series. Chris Fontaine settled for the second spot, third was “the Rocketman” Wayne Jefferson, in another solid run was B.J. McLeod for fourth and rounding out the top five was Scot Walters.

Q Auto and Injury Attorneys Open Wheel Modifeds The thirty-five-lap Open Wheel feature started off on a wild note when a crash on the backstretch eliminated several of the top cars including Mike Hinegardner, Ralph Bowman and Mark Nelson.

Everyone held their breath though as going down the backstretch long time DeSoto racer Brian Teeters and another car made contact sending it backwards into the turn three wall smacking it with a sickening thud on the drivers side of the car. Teeters was unconscious when the safety crews but was alert and talking when he was taken to hospital to checked out. It was later found among the bumps and bruises he also sustained a fractured arm and a cut on his leg that required stitches.

Robbie McAuliffe who was subbing for Brad Bischoff in his ride from last year battled the 04 track champion Bobby Baldwin in the closing laps for the lead but it was Baldwin who held off the charge to take the checkers, second was McAuliffe, third went to a returning Pat Nanney, fourth across was Eric Rudd and fifth Robert Crisp.

Magic 4’s Shane “the Iceman” Yoder was gain unstoppable in the Magic 4 feature. Coming from the rear of the field Yoder drove his way to the front to take the win and the $50 gift card put up by Auto-Zone. Also with another solid run it was Clay Joseph Jr. in second and taking the $25 Auto-Zone gift card, third went to Andrew Pratt, fourth was Chelsa LaJoie and fifth Albert “the Hammer” Nail.
