Tampa Fl. April 29 2006 Roger Crouse used a fantastic handling C.J. Rayburn chassis with horsepower to spare to claim Saturday nights Late Model main. Ted Erskine started on the pole for the 25 lap run but Jack Nosbisch Jr. worked his way to the front early on as Crouse worked his way towards the lead from his eleventh starting slot.
Roger used the outside line to charge into the lead after a restart and showed everyone that his car would work wherever he needed it to the rest of the distance. Nosbisch’s car started to show some smoke and then a small fire would end his night. David Schmauss, driving the Bobby Clark #51 fought his way to a second place finish followed closely by Marshall Austin, Wallace Peacock, and Jeff Conyers. Nosbisch and Josh Peacock took honors in the heats.
Pete Grantham continued his winning ways in the Outlaw Four division by claiming tonight’s feature. Grantham made his way to the front after starting mid-pack in the eighteen car field and was chased to the stripe by Steve Miller, Michael Gulvin, Kenny Baggerly, and Chad Rose. Miller and Baggerly won the prelims.
In Gagle’s Open Wheel Modified action it was all Devin Dixon. Dixon started on the pole but had to hold off several hard chargers for the top spot and the racing behind him was furious. Buzzie Reutimann came from ninth to second, David Schmauss from eleventh to third with John Bradley and Dale Kelly rounding out the top five. Bradley and Raymond Rogers garnered heat wins.
The Four Cylinder Bomber division required three heats to set up their feature for tonight. The heat winners were D.B. Hogwaller, Jimmy Alvis, and the Odessa flash George Christensen. When the smoke cleared after the fifteen lap feature victory lane saw a familiar face as Alvis made it four wins in a row and has become the car to beat in the class. The remainders of the top five were James Adler, Tim Albright, Christensen, and Damen Pappas.
Tonight action was capped off with a twenty-lap feature for the Limited Sprint class. Greg “Sticks” Leonard notched another victory in the Clyde Poole number eighty-five entry. Greg methodically picked his spots after starting tenth. Second place finisher Michael Smith came up seven pounds light in post race tech and Dqed moving Paulie Milum into second followed by Rich Alexander, Frank Beck III, and Tim George. David Kelly and Beck were heat winners.
