Choquette Makes it Two AACS Wins in a Row
By Rick Anges

Mild temperatures greeted the fans and competitors for this Saturday nights racing action which included race number 3 of the Hoosier Cup All American Challenge Series.

Qualifying brought some quick times around the 3/8 high-banked speedway with most being in the high 14-second range. Once again it was Jeff Choquette and Jeff Scofield taking the top times. Both had identical times of 14.62 but it was Choquette who would be on the pole by virtue of being higher in the points.

Three rows were inverted by the roll of the die putting Jeff Sloan and Darryl Shelnut up front. Shelnut would jump out to the lead on the drop of the green.

The field remained tight with some side by side action, as they would go 47 straight laps without a caution. Jeff Scofield who had his problems in race #2 once again had his share of bad luck. Apparently a tire was going down as he dashed into the infield pits for service from his pit crew.

This would take him to the rear of the field for the re-start with plenty of laps but a lot of traffic ahead of him. Wayne Anderson had a solid top five run going when lapped traffic became a factor. With a car spun in turn two Anderson had to slam on the binders to avoid him. As he did his car slid up making contact with the wall.

Although the impact was minor it was enough to knock the handle out of it. Anderson would struggle the rest of the evening finishing 8th. Choquette began making his march towards the front using every groove on the racetrack.

It wasnt long before he had caught the leader. Shelnut being the veteran would not make it easy for Choquette. Everytime Choquette would get a run on the leader Shelnut would slam the door. Choquette made a move going down the backstretch and was side by side with Shelnut going into turn three, coming out of turn four Shelnut bobbled and Choquette roared to the lead. Choquette went un-touched in the closing laps and made it two in a row in the AACS. "This feels really great, the car was awesome. I really have to thank my Dad for putting up with me", said the winner.
Finishing second Shelnut said "We have really been working on this car and I think we just about have it". In a solid run for third was Jeff Sloan, battling back from earlier problems was Jeff Scofield taking fourth and also coming back was points leader The Rocketman Wayne Jefferson who had dropped back to tenth.

Magic 4's
Terry Leiter of G&E Transmissions sponsored the first points race for the Magic 4 class putting up gift cards from Auto Zone for the top three drivers in the race.

Running on the inner track the 12-17 year olds showed they were ready for their first race running side by side and swapping sheet metal throughout the 10-lap feature.

When the smoke cleared it was Shane Yoder taking the win and $100 Auto Zone gift card, Bill Leak was second, Chelsea LaJoie took third, in fourth Albert the Hammer Nail and rounding out the top five Clay Joseph Jr.

DeSoto Trucks
It was Super Late Model ace Wayne Anderson returning to the winners circle in the DeSoto Truck race. Danny Anderson was giving the leader a run for his money until something let loose in the rear end of the #50 truck ending his night.

Second was Jeff Firestine, third went to Clint Snyder, Jim Reppi took fourth and fifth Dustin Bates.
