Night 1 of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing
By Jane Smith

The first night of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing was full of excitement for both drivers and fans. All classes qualified for their first night's events with Travis Kittleson qualifying fastest for the Super Late Models, Brad May for the Late Models, Eric Beers in the NASCAR Tour Type Modifieds and Rich Gould in the SK Modifieds.

Late Models were in action first with Brad May on the pole May quickly jumped to the front but it did not take long before the yellow flag was out when Jason Cochran spun in turn 1. On the restart it was A.J. Curreli and Brad May going for the pole followed by Rich Clouser, Doug Moff, and Kevin Ingram. Curreli and May are dueling it out when the yellow comes out again for T.C. McElyea who spun high in turns 3 and 4.

Curreli takes the pole on the restart folllowed by May, Clouser, Ingram and Chuck Burkhalter. Suddenly May spins going down the frontstretch putting him in the rear of the field on the restart for bringing out the yellow. Curreli holds the point for the restart but the yellow is shown again for Josh Wronkowski who has spun on the backstretch.

Curreli holds the point again and takes the checkered for his first win in the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing followed by Rich Clouser, Kevin Ingram, Chuck Burkhalter, and Kirk Hooker.

Rusty Purdue had the pole for the FL/IMCA Modifieds but it was Jared Allison who took the point in the Bobby Judkins No. 2x Florida Mod. A brief yellow was thrown with Allison holding the point on the restart followed by Jeremy Fitch.

Denis Pierce brings out the yellow when he suddenly has a tire go down. On the restart Allison holds the point followed by Jeremy Fitch, Jerry Symons, Tank Tucker and Jim "Hoot" Flynn. Allison suddenly slows on the backstretch with a broken hub as Jason Garver and Mack Hanbury spin avoiding the slowing 2x between turns 3 and 4.

Fitch has the point for the restart but it does not take second place Jerry Symons long before he has pasted Fitch and takes over the pole. Tank Tucker is on the move now and takes over second with Fitch sliding to third. Now Jim "Hoot" Flynn is on the move as he takes over third with Fitch in fourth and Rodney Brooks in fifth. Symons crosses the checkered and takes his first win of the World Series.

John Ryan Fitzpatrick had the pole for the Super Late Model feature but before a lap was down, the No. 87 of Tracey Quelette spun in turns 1 and 2. A complete restart was in order with Jerry Artuso taking the point over Fitzpatrick, Eddie Van Meter, Mike Fritts and Travis Kittleson.

Fitzpatrick puts the pressure on Artuso and eventually takes over the point but Artuso fights back. Eventually the two touch sending the No. 8 spinning and both to the rear of the field for the restart with Mike Fritts now on the point. Once Fritts had the pole, there was no stopping him. Fritts took the checkered for his first win of the World Series followed by Landon Cassill, Wayne Anderson, Jack Landis and Derrick Kelley.

Jon McKennedy had the pole for the NASCAR Tour Mod feature but it was Chuck Hossfeld who took the point and never looked back in spite of several cautions. Hossfeld held off the hard charges of Eric Beers and crossed the checkered for his first win of the 2006 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing followed by Eric Beers, Kevin Goodale, Rob Summers, and John Blewitt.

Tim "Missileman" McPhail took off the last year from racing but returned for the World Series sitting on the pole for the first Mini Stock race. McPhail took the point on the green and held off the hard charge of Steven Simpson but it was Randy Freeze who took the point and never looked back. Freeze took the checkered over Robbie Yoakam, Rick Sirmans, Pedie Allison and Jim Smith.

Ken Horten lead the SK Mods to the green but he had his hands full as Earl Paules. went side by side with him for the point having the crowd on their feet. This was by far the best race of the evening as these two battled lap after lap for the lead not giving an inch to one another. Eventually Paules took over the point and takes the win over Ken Horten, John Jensen, Tony Hanbury, and John White.

Sunday night, the TBARA Outlaw Winged Sprints make their first appearance of two in the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. Saturday night was rained ou
