Rocketman gets Win; Cooper takes Gulfcoast Mod Championship

By Rick Anges

Brittany Barr Takes First Magic 4 Win

A hot and steamy night greeted the fans and racers for Saturday nights racing at DeSoto Super Speedway. Three classes headlined the evenings action, The Florida Mini-Stock Challenge Series, the Gulf Coast Modified Series and the DeSoto Pro Trucks were all on hand to run 50 lap features.

Gulf Coast Modified Series: Coming into the final race of the tumultuous 2007 season for the Gulf Coast Modifieds it was down to the wire to crown a Champion. Robbie Cooper and Curtis Neumann came into the final race in a dead heat in the run for the crown.

The Rocketman Wayne Jefferson easily took fast time for the nights fifty-lap feature. Sean McLaughlin led the early stages of the race, but had Jefferson right on his back bumper. The Duo went at it lap after lap until Jefferson was able to make the move and take over the top spot. Jefferson was able to pull away and went unchallenged for the rest of the run.

McLaughlin was running second with Chet Senokossoff running third. Behind them, racing was heating up. John Sarppraicone Jr. had gotten around Neumann who had Cooper in his rearview mirror as they all were battling hard for the fourth spot. Neumann gave Sarppraicone a bump move sending him around and bringing out the yellow. Both competitors were sent to the rear of the field thus handing the championship to Cooper who was running sixth at the time.

When the smoke cleared it was Jefferson taking the win, McLaughlin was second, third was Senokossoff, fourth was Robbie Cooper and fifth, Lee Collins.

DeSoto Pro Trucks:
Travis Roland came into the night leading the point of
the DeSoto Pro Trucks and once again took fast time
for the nights event. He started twelfth on the
field due to the rule of the previous winner and
second place finisher starting eleventh and twelfth.

The drama began when a yellow came out and it was
determined that Roland had caused the caution. Roland
stopped on the backstretch to plead his case. The
officials then gave Roland the Black Flag for
unprofessional actions ending his night. He also lots
all points for the altercation.

Up front second place in the points going into the
race Gary Foxworth led the rest of the way and
took over the run championship by six points. Charlie
Montgomery finished in the second spot, third was
Danny Anderson, fourth was Bill Manfull and fifth Nick
King.

Clear Channel Magic 4’s
The race of the night saw young Brittany Barr take her
first ever win in the Magic 4 class that features
12-17 year old novice drivers. Barr whose father Pete
Barr competes in the Bomber Division, did not have an
easy go of it as Corey Bigley was racing her hard in
the second spot. Bigley really put the heat on her but
she never lost her cool as she roared to her first
ever-checkered flag. “I was screaming so loud in my
helmet when I saw those checkered flags” said
Brittany. Bigley had a solid run in second. Third went
to a hard charging Chelsea LaJoie, fourth across the
stripe was Alex Patten and fifth went to Dylan Bigley.
