O’Reilly USCS and Southern Speedway cancel Saturday Event
Atlanta, GA. Due to complications from a recent change in the manner the Florida Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) is interpreting regulations on race-car trailer towing vehicles the O’Reilly United Sprint Car Series and Southern Raceway have mutually decided to cancel the sprint car event scheduled for this Saturday night, August 11th at the track located in Milton, Florida. The track will hold it’s regular weekly racing program in lieu of the changes.
“After reviewing our situation all week and accessing the number of teams that were committed to reaching Southern Raceway on Saturday night it seemed that it would be in the best interest of the fans, race track and the series to postpone the second appearance of the O’Reilly USCS sprint cars to a more suitable time.” Said series founder and President Pete Walton. “I just don’t believe that it would be in anyone’s best interest to go to Southern Raceway with less than a competitive and entertaining field of cars.”
“We had put together a pretty strong group of USCS regulars by Tuesday for this event. But since then several of those have had a change of plans. The Gulf Coast area drivers from Mississippi and Louisiana who participate frequently in the past at the track have to travel through West Florida on their way to the track. Several of these teams had warnings issued to them at the Florida line while in route to the O’Reilly ASCS event on July 21st at Southern Raceway. Those teams would have received fines, but, some instead chose to go home leaving the field for that event with only nine cars. These same teams and others from Mississippi and Louisiana were totally reluctant to come to the event because of these problems in July. So rather than repeat the problems of last month we mutually decided that it would be best to wait until a better time,” Walton continued.
“We apologize to the fans and those teams that were prepared to race on Saturday night at Southern Raceway for the short notice. This is the first time in our eleven years as a series that we have ever cancelled for this reason. Hopefully these issues will get worked out soon for everyone involved, “concluded Walton.
The O’Reilly USCS www.uscsracing.com is scheduled to compete in a double-header next weekend. It kicks off Friday night, August 17th at Malden Speedway www.maldenspeedway.com in Malden, Missouri and moves over to Clayhill Motorsports www.clayhillmotorsports.com on Saturday night, August 18th.
