By Jason Loughren

After a week off due to Mother Nature around 100 cars signed in to tackle the Clay by the Bay Saturday night. With no rain in sight the crowd filled the grandstand with 5 classes of racing action on the schedule.

The Limited Late Models were in action as 16 cars took the green flag in the first feature race of the night. Shane Koperda started on the pole and was coming off a strong run in the heat race, but engine problems ended his night early. Tim Gay had a strong car all race long and held off points leader Forrest Gough for his second feature win of the season. Gough finished 2nd. Rich Kessinger, Roger Crouse and Bruce Harvey rounded out the top 5. Koperda and Kessinger took the top spot the heat races.

The Open Wheeled Modified’s were next on the card. Raymond Rogers started in the 3rd position and quickly made his way to the front of the field. Rogers would cruise to victory for his third feature win of the year. Jeff Mathews started 10th and finished 2nd. Steve Miller finished 3rd. Roger Crouse and Devin Dixon rounded out the top-5. Dale Kelley and Scotty Williams won the heat races.

The Outlaw 4’s provided the one of the most exciting finishes of the season as Austin Gillman drove by Chad Rose on the inside in turn 4 on the final lap. Rose was in the lead throwing sparks and smoke from his car as the laps wound down.

He would finish 2nd. Third place finisher Cecil Martin had a brief stop in the infield during a caution to extinguish a fire in the engine compartment. Alex Boerner drove through the field after an early race spin while leading put him to the rear of the field, he finished 4th. Matt Haynes completed the top 5. Jamie Burrows and Boerner took the checkered flag in the heat races.

Another full field of Late Models were on hand as 26 cars took the green flag in the feature race. Jackie Nosbisch, Jr. won the caution filled feature that was cut short by the time limit. He started from the 11th spot and made his way to the lead with the time winding down. Ryan Mitchell who lead a few laps and ran in the top 5 all race long finished 2nd.

Roger Crouse finished 3rd after leading the race during the early laps. Matt Hayes had his best finish of the season coming home in the 4th position. David Schmauss rounded out the top 5. Todd Alexander, Roger Crouse, and Schmauss won the heat races.

The final class of the evening was the 4-Cylinder Bombers. Point leader Frank Miller cruised to victory for his 4th feature win of the season. Howie Woods finished 2nd. Colonel Miller took the checkered flag in 3rd. Bill Hadlick started in the 23rd position and came home 4th. Kever Raulerson rounded out the top 5. Randy Tyler, Collin Cruse and George Christiansen went to victory lane in the heat races.

East Bay Raceway Park resumes ASA-sanctioned racing Saturday June 23rd at 6:30pm with a full slate of racing action. Late Models, Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Outlaw 4’s and Limited Sprints will all be in action.
