Choquette Grabs All America Challenge Series Win

By Rick Anges

Bradenton, Fl. Twenty high powered Super Late Models signed in for race number three of the “Hoosier Cup All American Challenge Series”. The Rocketman” Wayne Jefferson hit the hat trick getting his third fast time in a row of the young season.

Second fast time went to David Wilson; “Big Daddy” Dave Pletcher was third fast.

Also looking for a trifecta on the evening would be two time series champion Jeff Scofield. Scofield had logged two wins in the first two races thus leading the points going into the night’s action.

The roll of the die inverted four cars. This put Pletcher and ’06 champ Jeff Choquette on the front row. Choquette jumped out to the top spot from the drop of the green flag.

The field ran nose to tail for the first half of the race but the fireworks started just past the half way mark. Jefferson had run second behind Choquette until Scofield made his move for the front. Once Scofield got behind Choquette the Jeff and Jeff show was on. Neither driver gave any quarter as they battled lap after lap for the top spot with Jefferson hanging tight on the leaders.

Scofield made his move but Choquette came right back at him both drivers got loose coming out of four and Jefferson was right there and made his move on Scofield. The two made contact sending both cars sliding into the infield. Scofield would be sent to the rear for the yellow but the action was just beginning. Scofield vehemently disagreed with the call but the officials were hearing none of it.

Scofield would then turn his attention to Choquette driving towards him aggressively under the yellow. This would bring out the dreaded “Black Flag” sending Scofield to the pits with no points and no money for the night.

Choquette go on to take his first win of 2006 with Jefferson holding on for second. Third went to David Pollen Jr. who had his own race going on with David Wilson,Wilson would end up thirteenth after problems on his machine. Fourth across the stripe was Pletcher and fifth Brad Bischoff. With Pollen’s third place run he came out of the race the points leader, Scofield would drop to seventh in the points race.
