Florida Drivers Get Aquainted With ASA Late Model Racing

By John Barker

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - The 2nd annual Quality Pre Owned Cars and Trucks Alamo 200 ASA Late Model Series race was won by Texas driver Colt James as he pocketed $11,000 for his victory with cold windy temperatures in the 39 degree range.

Chris Fontaine of Lakeland, FL finished 17th in the 31 car ASA late model starting field during this 16 caution flag race that ate up 72 laps. Competing drivers represented 14 different states.

“We had multiple race handling problems and didn’t even practice well,” said Fontaine. I’m really disappointed in our efforts. We’re looking ahead to competing in the Bronson Speedway race on March 17th.

The Lone Star State driving Colt had his gun out early as this Buda, Texas driver also won the ARP Bodies/Aluminum Racing Products Fast Qualifier Award with a time of 18.480 seconds with an average speed of 97.403 mph on the one-half mile high banked oval. James then took the lead from Eddie Hoffman on lap 52 recording his biggest feature win.

Colt James and writer John Barker will be a special guests on Real Racin' USA Tuesday Night. Use this link for more information.

Hoffman of Wheaton, IL settled for second in the caution plagued race as Peter Cozzolino of Indianapolis, IN finished third, Sean Murphy of Ft Lauderdale, FL was fourth and Andy Hanson of Ramsay, MI was fifth.

The next event for the ASALMS will be the Southern Division 2007 Season Opener on Friday and Saturday March 16-17, 2007 at Bronson (FL) Motor Speedway, located West of Gainesville in Bronson, Florida for the Gator 100 Presented by Pennzoil.
