The "Rocket Man" Starts the Year with a Win.

Wayne Jefferson picked up an early 2004 victory at Charlotte County Speedway Sunday afternoon, running away from the field with a borrowed car.

Jefferson, driving the number 61 of Gulf Coast Modified Champion Chet Senokossoff, grabbed a first lap lead and was the class of the field at Charlotte's season opener.

When asked about his plans for 2004 Jefferson said "We are going to run the Gulf Coast (modified) series, but I will be here a lot" said Jefferson after the race. "I may not run for points here, but we are to run a lot of races here."

The familiar black number 1 of the Open Wheel racer known by many as the Rocket Man" is still being prepared and will be showing up at Modified races soon.

Over the last several years Jefferson has been one of the winningest drivers in the Open Wheels.

Look for more on the Gulf Coast Modified Series shortly as the series will be expanded this year, and early reports say the 2003 experiment is blossoming into a full blown Open Wheel touring series with a major sponsor.

Mike Cope, owner of Bronson Motor Speedway, Frank Hill of Sunshine Speedway and LeRoy Davidson of Charlotte County were the owners whose support engineered the successful three race series last year. We expect all three to be involved again this year.
