Todd Anglani wins LLM at Hialeah Season Finale
|
HIALEAH, Fla. - Todd Anglani paced all 25 laps to score a victory in the season ending limited late model feature Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.
Veteran Anglani hustled off the pole position and was never headed as he paced new division champion Tommy Styer, David Weaver, Greg Kaouk and Steve Weaver, Jr to the stripe.
Ed Leeke and Joe Franssen paced the early laps of the 25 lap street stock run but it was Buddy Ryan who motored into the lead on lap eight and never looked back enroute to his fourth score this season. John Bentley kept in nose clean to claim runner-up honors in front of new champion Greg Gorniak, Frank Kelliher and Leeke.
Mini stock action saw Kenny Strong and his Toyota lead from the outset only to give way to challenger Eli Pollard with three laps remaining in the 25 lap run. Pollard then held off the late race challenge from Danny Chance for the victory as Strong, Bill Calder and Bill Miner rounded out the top five finishers in the dozen car field.
Using the difficult outside lane to good advantage, Tony Crowder powered his way through the 28 car cyclone field for and easy victory, his fifth this year. Mike Powers came from deep in the field for second money over David Dielmann, Eddie Lawler and John Imburgia. Gorniak proved to be the best of the school bus figrue 8 racers ahead of T.C. McElyea and Jeff Healy while Chris Gilley bested Rich Denoncour and Mike Weber in the wild demolition derby.
The special ladies race saw Carol Khaleel wheel her Camaro to the victory ahead of Debbie McElyea and Judy Crowder.
While the speedway was scheduled to close at the end of the 2004 season a change in plans for developing the property will see a brief 90 day "mini season" be held in 2005. Exact dates will be announced by track manager Andrew Ogden at a later date.
