IT'S TIME TO RACE!!
November 7, 2004
Tommy King tops FASTRUCK feature at New Smyrna Speedway
by Jane Smith

Samsula, Fla. (November 6, 2004) A perfect night, not too cool but cool enough to feel the heat coming off the asphalt at New Smyrna Speedway. As fans drank hot chocolate, drivers were fighting for those precious few last points in the 2004 season.

Josh Wronkowski had the pole for the black out race from 10/30 for the Super Stocks. Wronkowski jumped to the point on the green but it did not take Ron Whaley any time to pass Wronkowski and take over the lead followed by Wronkowski, Pat Buckley, Jack Lenzen and Jeff Colburn. Lenzen passed Buckley taking over third as Buckley went to fourth. The yellow came out for Bruce Wingate who had spun.

On the restart, Whaley could feel the heat off the No. 211 of Lenzen but Whaley did not falter. Lenzen had problems and had to withdraw from the field leaving Whaley all alone for the win. Colburn puts the pedal down and passes Wronkowski who had moved back to second. Colburn tried but could not pass Whaley as Whaley took the checkered followed by Jeff Colburn, Josh Wronkowski, Pat Buckley and Barry Parks.

Strictly Stocks saw Bob Cherry on the pole for their feature event with Cherry leading the whole race. Only one yellow stopped the action for Jose Rivera who spun on the backstretch. Cherry took the checkered followed by P.J. Masearo, Richie Laszlo, Chris Guidry, and Bruce McGonigal Jr. In tech, both Cherry and Masearo were disqualified for locked rear-ends. The win was given to Laszlo followed by Chris Guidry, Bruce McGonigal Jr., Chuck Rush and Nick Boley in the top five.

FASTKIDS saw Dalton Zehr lead the way in spite of the good efforts of Matt Martin to try and catch Zehr after starting on the pole. The caution came out early in the race for Cody Pitts and Levi Hobbs as they get together on the frontstretch. Both boys were fine but done for the night. Zehr held the point on the restart followed by Martin, Amanda Gogel, Sean Price, and David Wilson. Wilson passes Price and takes over second.

The yellow comes out again for Matt Martin who spun in turns 3 and 4. Martin takes his truck to pit road for crew attention but it was not use and Martin retired from the race. This left the field open for Zehr who took the checkered followed by Amanda Gogel, Sean Price, Spencer Taylor and David Wilson.

Late Models saw too much action as Randy Dye, Don Hess, and Sam Watts got together on the backstretch before the race was going good. Also hurt in the incident was Alan Bruns who came back out with his new Late Model Modified and Scott Seither who had to retire from the race with body damage. Dye and Hess were done before beginning.

On the restart, A.J. Curreli had the point followed by Jeremy Fitch, Mark Smith, Alan Bruns and his new modified, and David Pletka. Fitch tried but could not pass Curreli as he took the feature win followed by Jeremy Fitch, Mark Smith, Alan Bruns, and David Pletka.

Bobby Blake had the pole for the Modified feature but it was George Murphy who took the point on the start and never looked back. With no cautions, it was Blake chasing Murphy to no avail. Murphy took the checkered followed by Bobby Blake, Dave Savicki, Ted Helmes, and Ken McCracken.

Danny Foster had the pole for the 50 lap FASTRUCK event but it was Dustin Skinner who took the point from Foster. Following Skinner was Tommy King, Sean Bass, Jimmy Gill and Foster. For 17 laps, Skinner and King fought for the lead with King finally taking the point. Jimmy Gill put the pressure on Skinner and took over second with Sean Bass following thru in third as Skinner settled into fourth. Then the yellows began.

Kelly Caudill brought out the yellow after a caution was called for debris on the track. Caudill was fine and restarted in the rear as King lead the way followed by Jimmy Gill, Sean Bass, Joey Logans, and Dustin Skinner. A few more cautions and it was green, white, checkered for Tommy King followed by Sean Bass, Joey Logans, Jimmy Gill and George Gorham.

The second feature for the Super Stocks saw Barry Parks on the pole but it was Josh Wronkowski who took the point on the green followed by Parks, Jack Lenzen, Ron Whaley and Jason Foster. Lenzen, who broke in the heat race, is ready for some action as he puts the pressure on Wronkowski. Suddenly Wronkowski is in the turn 4 wall with his wheel racing down the frontstretch. Wronkowski is fine and towed into the pits for the night.

Lenzen now has the point followed by Whaley, Parks, Foster and Wingate. Foster passes Parks for third as Pat Buckley puts the pressure on Wingate and takes over fifth. Buckley passes Parks for fourth as Parks goes to fifth. Lenzen takes the checkered followed by Ron Whaley, Racin Jason Foster, Pat Buckley, and Barry Parks.

Chris Peludat had the pole for the Sportsman feature but found that Patrick Thomas was right on his tail for the entire 15 laps. The caution comes out for Paul Colgan who spun coming off turn 4. Peludat held the point on the restart as Thomas looked high, low, everywhere but could not pass Peludat.

Thomas could get Peludat in the corners but the straightaways belonged to Peludat. Soukup passed Gilliam for third as Gilliam settled into fourth. On the last lap Ron Lufcy, who was running fifth, slowed as he shut off his engine due to overheating. This gave John Nusbaum the opportunity to take over fifth. Peludat took the checkered followed by Patrick Thomas, Mike Soukup, Dennis Gilliam and John Nusbaum.
