IT'S TIME TO RACE!!
June 26, 2004
Fritts Tops Super Late Models at Orlando SpeedWorld
by Jane Smith

Bithlo, Fla. (June 25, 2004) In spite of some dark clouds around the track, Orlando SpeedWorld got another good night of racing in. But the races were finished just in time to see one heck of a lightning show and some rain.

Dick Owens had the pole for the Mini Stock feature but it was Sean Bass who took the lead on the green followed by Chad Ashley, Dick Owens, Dick Laszlo and R.J. Arnone. Amanda Tonchuk brought out the yellow when her No. 18 Mini Stock smoked and lost transmission fluid on the track. Tonchuk took the car into the pits and the crew quickly cleaned up the track.

On the restart, Ashley put the pedal down and took over the number one spot with Bass sliding into second. Arnone passed Laszlo and took over fourth. Rex "Boneman" Hollinger then passed Laszlo for fifth as Laszlo settled into sixth. Arnone put the pressure on Owens and was able to pass Owens for third. But Hollinger was on the move and took advantage and passed Arnone taking over third.

Ashley took the checkered followed by Sean Bass, Rex "Boneman" Hollinger, R.J. Arnone and Dick Owens. Chad Ashley and Dick Laszlo won the heat races.

Wayne Heckle had the pole for the Open Wheel Modified feature and quickly took the point followed by Alan Bruns, Ronnie Roach, Justin Reynolds and Clint Wasteney. The yellow came out when Bruns spun on the bottom of turns 3 and 4. Bruns was fine and rejoined the field in the rear.

Heckle held the point for the restart followed by Roach, Wasteney, Mark Emberson and Ricky Wood. Wasteney falls backwards with Emberson taking over third, Wood fourth and Reynolds fifth. Heckle takes the checkered followed by Ronnie Roach, Mark Emberson, Ricky Wood, and Justin Reynolds.

Wayne Heckle won the heat race.

Bruce Gayton had the pole for the Sportsman feature but it was Bobby Joe Woodley who took the lead on the green. Following Woodley was Gayton, Richard Hight, Bill Hall and Spencer Lemmerman. Lemmerman passes Hall and takes over fourth with Justin Hall coming into fifth and Bill Hall settling into sixth.

Suddenly Woodley's car slows and is done for the night handing the lead over to Gayton. Gayton holds on in spite of a very hard charging Richard Hight right on his tail. Gayton takes the checkered followed by Richard Hight, Spencer Lemmerman, Justin Hall and Bill Hall.

Bobby Joe Woodley won the heat race.

A large field of Super Lates came to try their luck at Orlando SpeedWorld. Ricky Wood had the pole for their 25 lap feature and took the lead on the green followed by Mike Fritts, Ronnie Roach, Chad Pierce and Eric Deffendall. Rick Lyons brings out the yellow as he and Mario Hernandez get together with both spinning.

The field is realigned with Wood on the point. But it is a short green as Bobby Lyons, Rick Lyons and Hernandez get together again in turns 3 and 4. On the restart, Fritts puts the hammer down and passes Wood for the lead. But another short green as Bobby Fleckinger spun on the backstretch bringing out the yellow. Fleckinger joins the field in the rear as Fritts leads the way followed by Wood, Roach, Pierce and Patrick Conrad.

Dicandio spins in turns 1 and 2 but the yellow is slow to come out. Deffendall and Pierce get together with Pierce spinning. Both Dicandio and Deffendall rejoin the field in the rear as Pierce leaves the racing surface. Fritts holds the point on the restart followed by Wood, Roach, Conrad and Jared Allison.

Scott McKinley takes a wild ride coming off 4 and does a little spin job. Fritts holds the point on the restart followed by Wood, Roach, Conrad, Allison, Bobby Orr and Mike Hinegardner. The yellow comes out again when Dicandio and Fleckinger touch in turns 1 and 2. Both rejoin the field in the rear. Fritts leads the way but the yellow comes out again when Hinegardner and Orr touch with Orr spinning on the frontstretch. Hinegardner goes to the rear and Orr takes his ride into the pits.

Fritts holds the point on the restart but it is another short green as Fleckinger and Rick Bates get together. Fleckinger goes in for the night and the race goes back green. Fritts takes the checkered followed by Ricky Wood, Ronnie Roach, Patrick Conrad, Jared Allison, Mike Hinegardner, Scott McKinley and Rick Bates.

Ronnie Roach and Jared Allison took the heat wins.

Bill Loomis had the pole for the Super Stock feature and lead from green to checkered. Following Loomis on the start was Corey Freed, Bob Beiler, Ron Edwards, and Roger Benton. Ted Head moves into fourth with Edwards going to fifth and Benton sixth.

Ron Whaley, whose car broke in the heat race and borrowed Rob Watford's No. 17 Super Stock for the feature, hits the turn 2 wall hard. Whaley is fine but the car has to be towed into the pits. Loomis holds the point on the restart followed by Freed, Beiler, Head and Benton.

Bob Beiler spins but does not bring out the caution but slides back towards the rear. Head puts the pressure on Freed and takes over second with Freed going to third, Benton in fourth and Jason Foster in fifth. Foster spins on the backstretch trying to take over fourth but continues on. Loomis holds on and takes the checkered followed by Ted Head, Corey Freed, Roger Benton and Dave Wright.

Bob Beiler and Ron Whaley took the heat wins.

Richie Laszlo took another Strictly Stock feature win as he lead from green to checkered over William Hindman and Bobby Crites. Richie Laszlo took the heat win.
