Anderson Wins Florida Pro at Columbia Motorsports Park
|
by Marty Little
LAKE CITY, Fla. - Second generation wheelman Wayne Anderson proved once again why he is able to race for a living as he led 96 of the 100 laps to win the Eddie Accardi Chevrolet-Mazda Florida Pro Series super late model run Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park.
With temperatures in the high 90s, Anderson was hot himself as he set fast time on the highly banked half-mile oval and in the process shattered the nine year old mark set by Scott Bramlett in 1995. On the redraw Anderson pulled the favored one pill to lead the 17 car field from the pole. At the drop of the green flag Anderson put his familiar Airframe International No. 84 out front and clicked off lap after lap with Doyle Boatwright a respectable second.
All went well until lap 66 when Rich Pratt slid off turn one into the trees and the red flag was displayed to rescue Pratt and his car. Neither were badly damaged and when the race went green again Anderson slipped up the track in turn one and Boatwright motored into the lead.
It only took Andeson four laps to regain his rythm and he was back in front and stayed there to the checkers. Boatwright claimed runner-up honors ahead of Brian Finney, Michael Faulk and Tal Ethridge. With his ninth place finish Pratt became the new FPS points leader as previous leader Jay Middleton was not in attendance.
The Florida modified 20 lap main fell to former champion J.F. McClellan as he took the top spot from Steve Brickhouse on lap 11 and never looked back. John Mitchell was next to the stripe ahead of Greg Nordstrom, Dale Mosley and Brickhouse.
Dave Barber, Jr proved the best of the street stocks as he topped Jason Garver and Brad Fiene in the 20 lap run.
The pure stocks went 15 laps with Caleb Mahler the victor in front of Josh Bedenbaugh and John Roling. Complete finish of Florida Pro Series Eddie Accardi Chevrolet 100 showing position and driver: 1. Wayne Anderson, 2. Doyle Boatwright, 3. Brian Finney, 4. Michael Faulk, 5. Tal Ethridge, 6. Jim Smith, 7. Robbie Smith, 8. Perry Lovelady, 9. Rich Pratt, 10. Kevin Finney, 11. Tate Pierce, 12. Gale Grayer, 13. Marc Mitchell, 14. Steve Dorer, 15. Dwight Thompson, 16. Al Berry, 17.
