KUMP AND GAMBLE STRIKE WINS AT VOLUSIA SPEEDWAY PARK
by Shelley Doyle

Joe Kump took The Deland Truck Center Late Model Feature after a long dry spell for green to checkered. Kump jumped to the lead as Brent Chilson, Rod Burton, Brett Carlton & the field of full throttle battling late models saw the green flag drop.

Chilson pulled along side Kump continually placing assaults on the leader but Kump held tight, full speed ahead showing how unstoppable he was. Burton, Carlton, Lawton Minchew running 3 wide behind the leaders continually changing positions.

The pressure was on as the top 5 battled inches apart for the top spot. Chilson with 3 laps to go put the hammer down, diving down extremely low letting it all hang out for the lead but Kump held onto his fast, steady line. Chilson spun losing 2nd and causing a caution with only 3 laps to go.

Burton & Minchew pulled up on Kump's bumper on the restart but Kump was a man on a mission as he crossed the checkered for the win. Joe Kump, Rod Burton, Lawton Minchew, Brett Carlton, Mike Eubanks, Scott Thompson, Wayne Shugart, Brent Chilson, Jason Davis, Travis Rhoden

Todd Ponce won The Certified Auto World Street Stock Feature. Ponce took the lead from Steve Shead bringing along Stanton Mills, Pat Vareika, Joey Haslauer, Grady Christian & remaining hard charging field of drivers. The top 7 drivers ran 2 & 3 wide, changing places on leaders bumper. Ponce felt the pressure as the field battled inches apart, full throttle, no holds bar style of racing. Cautions occurred between the front runners of Christian, Haslauer, Drew Smith, David Showers, Jr., Donnie Ashford & Stanton Mills as nobody was willing to give an inch. Ponce held on tight to the lead until the checkered flag dropped. Todd Ponce, Kevin Zahnen, Pat Vareika, Richard Schneider, Joey Haslauer, Robby Shook, Davey Cline, Daniel Lewis, Stanton Mills, David Showers, Jr

Travis Gamble won The Speedway Pull N Save Hobby Stock A Main in style from green to checkered. Gamble jumped to the lead as the hard charging field ran # & 4 wide, beating & banging for positions. A red flag was thrown on lap 2 as Philip Brown hit the front stretch wall hard, bursting the fuel cell flames engulfed the car & driver. Driver was fine but car was demolished. Jeremy Cline, Dennis North, David Showers Sr & Steve Oldaker pulled up tight on Gamble's bumper trying to force an error but Gamble showed he was up for the challenge. Gamble expertly maneuvered around lapped traffic, holding off the constant assaults of a very competitive hard battling field of cars until he took the checkered flag for the win. Travis Gamble, Jeremy Cline, Steve Oldaker, David Showers Sr, Jimmy Heffner, Alan Peacock, John Apgar, Dennis Lewis, Jay May, Jeff Vareika

Mark Eldridge took another Kickin Chickin Mini Stock Feature. Barry Sheffield held the lead as, Matt Cawood, Keith Briggs, Mike Cawood, Ricky Wilson, Matt Hartley, Jackie Rhames, Charlie Staats & remaining field raced inches apart, petal to metal for positions. Eldridge over powered Sheffield for the lead on lap 9. Staats with 3 laps to go went for the lead but lady luck wasn't riding along tonight, as he spun causing a caution. Time expired forcing a green & white, then checkered to be thrown on the restart. Eldridge held onto 1st for the win.

Ray Hunter won The Pure Stock Feature. The field took the green 3 & 4 wide, petal to the metal, bouncing off what ever they came in contact with for positions. Steve Buker, Mark Comitale, Calvin Christian, Tommy Saunders & John Clegg battled on the leaders bumper trying to unseat him but he was a man on a mission. Hunter held a quick, steady line for the win.

The Powder Puff ran with the following ladies winning for their divisions. Becky Williams - Pure Stock, Pam Cawood - Mini Stock, Lu Ann Bohman (Tim Hogan's mother) - Hobby Stock. Way to go Ladies, you did a great job.
