BURTON & MINCHEW WIN AT VSP
by Shelley Doyle

Volusia Speedway Park gave their fans an action pack night of double features due to the previous week's rain delay. The night was filled with heart pounding 3 & 4 wide battles, paint swapping fender bending cautions, full throttle racing as fans got to cheer their favorite drivers on twice in one night.

Rod Burton won the first Late Model Feature after obtaining the lead from veteran driver Wayne Shugart with 10 laps to go. Shugart had a strong lead over Burton, Lawton Minchew, Joe Kump, Mike Eubanks & the remaining field when he experienced car trouble losing the lead to Burton. Burton held on for the win.

Lawton Minchew won the second Late Model Feature almost lapping the entire field of his tough competitors. Minchew over powered the lead from Wayne Shugart at the half way mark then commenced to put the pedal to the metal weaving in and out of the field as he drove to the win.

Joey Haslauer won the first Street Stock Feature after obtaining the lead from Tim Hughes 4 laps to go. Hughes held a strong lead but lady luck wasn't on his side as car trouble forced him to pit losing the lead to Haslauer.

Drew Smith took the 2nd Street Stock Feature from green to checkered over the hard battling field of competitors. Todd Ponce ran second trying to rattle the cage of Smith but Smith was on a mission for the win. Steve Oldaker won the 1st Hobby Stock A Main from start to finish over an extremely close field of 24 drivers. Red flags, cautions & consist position changing keep the fans on their feet, cheering on the drivers as Oldaker won a long over due win.

Donnie Birdwell won the 2nd Hobby Stock A Main after Frankie Taylor was disqualified at the scales. Birdwell, Joe Belkey, Steve Oldaker, Tom Hughes, Dennis North & field ran inches apart as the field beat and banged for positions giving the fan's another action packed race to cheer them on.

Travis Gamble & Shaun Daugharty both won Hobby Stock B Mains. Mark Eldridge took another Mini Stock Feature. Keith Briggs jumped to the lead and held on tight until Eldridge overpowered him with 8 laps to go. Briggs tried to regain the lead but Eldridge held a steady, fast line as he crossed the checkered for the win.

Ronnie Ponce won The Mini Stock Feature that ran the week prior as the sky let loose with the rain. Ponce took the lead from green to checkered for the win as the sky opened up with the hard down pour. Tommy Saunders won The Pure Stock Feature over a very competitive field of 30 drivers. The field beat, banged, swapped paint, fenders, lost tires as only 10 heart stopping action packed laps could be run before the time expired giving Saunders the win.

Calvin Christian won The Pure Stock Feature the week prior for the 3rd straight week. Fan's stood and cheered the field as the hard charging field ran 3 & 4 wide the entire race.
