IT'S TIME TO RACE!!
March 8, 2004
Owen, Conquest repeat at Bronson, Gill wins FASTRUCKS
By Rick Warren

A pit area overflowing with racecars and threatening skies were the order of the night at Bronson Motor Speedway. Despite a few light showers, a full program of racing was completed Saturday Night.

After an exciting round of heat races, it was time for the features to begin. First out were the Fast Kids for their 25 lap event. When the green flag waved, Matt Martin took the lead and looked to be unbeatable. As the race was slowed for several cautions for minor incidents, the field was able to maintain contact with the leader. When the race finally stayed green for several laps, Martin was able to open his lead.

A late caution bunched the field once again, as the race for the win played out, Martin looked like the race was his. However , as the leader came off turn 4 for the checkered flag, Martin’s truck got loose and spun. David Pullen Jr. was able to avoid the spinning truck of Martin, and take the win.

The ASA FasTrucks had a short field, starting only 9 trucks. Jimmy Gill, had a much better evening than on previous visits to BMS. Starting from the front row, Gill powered to the lead and was unchallenged for the win. George Morales finished second.

The Workparttime.com modified feature was a real crowd pleaser.Rick “fireball” Maguire started from the front row with Kevin Durden, and Maguire was able to take the lead at the start of the race. The battle behind Maguire was furious, with the cars of Durden, Gene Owen, Larry Goolsby, Kevyn Terry and John Anderson all taking shots at second place, and changing positions every lap. Midway thru the race Owen was able to pass Durden for second, and begin the chase to catch Maguire. After running behind Maguire, and looking for a way around the leader, Owen got his chance when Maguire slipped high and opened the door for Owen. Once Owen got the lead, he held on comfortably for the win. Maguire still finished a strong second, followed by Durden, Terry and Anderson.

The Sportsman division also had a very exciting race, with a four car battle for the front spot for the entire race. Last weeks winner Arthur Conquest took the lead early in the race, with Rob Cooper, Joe Rankin and Doug Anderson shadowing his every move. Conquest proved to be up to the challenge, and kept his car on the bottom the entire race. On the final lap, coming for the checkered, Conquest and Cooper made contact in turn 4 with Conquest spinning. It was ruled that Cooper initiated the contact, and the win went to Conquest. Second went to Anderson, followed by Rankin.

18 Pure Stocks took the green flag for their typical wild and wooly feature event. It was difficult to keep up with the action, as it was non-stop, and at both ends of the track. After several cautions for mishaps, Jason “Slick” Holbrook came home with his first feature win this year. Second went to Joey Hunt, followed by Arnold Hughes and Mike Baker.

16 Mini-Stocks took the green flag for a race filled with some very heated competition. Clint Foley, minus front fenders from a heat race collision, jumped to the lead, and held it the entire race. Action behind him was pretty racy, as several times drivers all seemed to want to occupy the same spot on the race track, creating some exciting moments. The 5x car of Jeff Barnes created some excitement of his own, although it was definitely the undesired kind. Barnes’ engine let go going into turn 1, causing a large fire in the car. Barnes was finally able to get the car stopped entering turn 3, and leave the car. We were all relieved to see Jeff escape without injury. Foley held on for the win, followed by Tom Jones Jr., and Marty Neikens.

Kevin Hodge returned to his winning form as he captured the win in the V8 bomber division, followed by Randy O’Neal and Billy Padgett.

In 4Cyl Bomber Action, Clark Pittsley picked up his first Feature Win at BMS, followed by Edward Francis and John Hagans.

Be sure to join us at Bronson Motor Speedway next Saturday night for all the action of our Regular Bronson Series Racers, plus Figure 8’s, and those WILD
