|
by Jane Smith
Samsula, Fla. (February 12, 2004) Night six of the World Series saw a short delay due to a passing light rain shower but the track was dried and the race was able to continue.
Alan Bruns had the pole for the FL/IMCA Mod feature but it was Lee Collins who lead from green to checkered. With only two yellows, Collins was able to pull away from Jerry Symons on the restarts to take his second win of the 6 nights. Collins is only four points behind Jerry Artuso, the points leader. Top five were Lee Collins, Jerry Symons, Brad May, Jerry Artuso and David Stacy.
Mike Murphy had the pole for the Late Model feature event and quickly jumped to the lead and held off a very hard charging Jason Boyd for almost the entire race until Boyd was able to pass and take over the lead on lap 18. Boyd took the checkered followed by Mike Murphy, Shaun McWhirter, Rich Clouser and Tim Russell.
The NASCAR Tour Type/SK Mods went for 50 laps with John Blewitt on the pole for their feature event. But it did not take Ed Flemke long to take the point and hold on for 50 laps to get his first win of the World Series. Ted Christopher tried everything he could but Flemke could not be shaken. Flemke crossed the checkered followed by Ted Christopher, George Kent, Charlie Pasteryak and Chuck Hossfield. Eric Beers maintains the points lead for the NASCAR Tours with 500 points to second place Charlie Pasteryak with 488 points. The NASCAR Tour Type/SK Mods will go for 100 laps on Friday, February 13th in the Richie Evans Memorial.
The Super Late Model feature had to be red flagged on lap 8 for rain but it was only a brief light shower and the track was dried. B.J. McLeod had the pole for their 30 lap feature but McLeod found himself going side-by-side almost automatically with Mike Fritts for the lead. Fritts won the point followed by Kevin Cywinski, Justin Drawdy, Jr Hanley, and B.J. McLeod.
After the race was restarted on lap 8 from the red flag, it was Fritts on the point. Wayne Anderson took over fifth with McLeod sliding back to sixth. On lap 18, Donald Chisholm brought out the yellow as he tapped the backstretch wall. Fritts holds the point on the restart and never looks back with no cautions for the remaining race. Fritts takes the checkered and moves only 4 points behind Hanley in the Championship point race. Following Fritts across the checkered was Kevin Cywinski, Justin Drawdy, Jr. Hanley, and Wayne Anderson.
Mike Trocki had the pole for the Sportsman feature event but it was Dale Clouser who quickly took the point followed by Mike Trocki, Paul Colgan, Chris Peludat, and Dennis Gilliam. Lap 4 the caution comes out for Peludat who has hit the frontstretch wall.
Clouser holds the point on the restart as Paul Colgan takes over second with Trocki sliding to third. On lap 17, John Webber brings out the yellow as he spins coming down the front stretch. Clouser once again holds strong on the restart.
On the last lap, Trocki has an axle to break with his tire going one way and the car another. Clouser takes the checkered followed by Paul Colgan, Randy Hecker, Bob Hart and John Webber.
Thursday night, February 12, the Super Late Models go for 50 laps with Late Models, FL/IMCA Mods, NASCAR Tour Type/SK Mods, and Sportsman in action. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
