Colt James wins at New Smyrna Speedway for the Florida 100 presented by Crane Cams

The ASA Late Model Series South driver Colt James takes another win narrowing the point’s battle with only two events left this season. A full house was on their feet to watch the exciting finish with the top three teams taking the checkered flag of; 15 Colt James, 31 Brian Blum and the 88 of Justin Larson.

Jimmy Lang finished 4th and continues to hold the points lead with two events still left in the season: New Senoia on October 11th and the Championship event at Charlotte County on October 18th. Chad Pierce finished in the 5th position driving his teammate’s car #3 after some engine troubles with his own car the #57 and some unexpected health issues with Blake Lehr that left the teams with one driver and one car for the evening.

The teams took the checkered on lap 101 after a caution on lap 99. There was a total of five cautions for the evening with a caution on the start causing the loss of 51 Stephen Nasse, 60 Chad Atkins, 26 Jessica Murphy, 9 Kurt Jett, 32 Gyuri Makai. Earlier in the day, the 92 of Danny Partelo hit the wall in qualifying and was unable to fix the car to compete and the 19 of Chris Gillespie had car troubles that took him out of competition.

It was perfect weather in New Smyrna on Saturday to make up for the rain out of this event. The New Smyrna event originally scheduled in June was cancelled due to major storms throughout the area. Over 100 employees from Crane Cams came out to support the series and the track as well as a large group from the Spina Bifida Foundation.

The 33 team of Casey Caudill Sponsored the Spina Bifida Fundraiser and hoping to raise money and awareness for this cause. Casey was born with a spinal cord defect known as spina bifida, and after 4 surgeries the outlook for the Florida youngster remains positive. The ASA Late Model teams participated in a fundraising drive during the autograph session as well as interacted with many of the kids with Spina Bifida to show our commitment to the cause. We will be working with them throughout the rest of the season to help collect more for the fundraiser and add awareness to this foundation.

The win is good news for Colt James who went into the event 59 point’s behind Jimmy Lang. The win will help narrow the Gap between the two competitors and will definitely make for two exciting final events for this division. Jimmy Lang has had five feature wins in the ASA Late Model South Division and is hoping to land the Championship in this Division.
