Lasker Wins East Bay Sprints; Collins Wins Late Models

It was a beautiful night for racing at “the Clay by the Bay” as he United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series rolled into town far a make-up race that was rained out earlier in the month.
A UDLCS record 49 cars entered the 50 lap $3000 to win event at East Bay Raceway Park and the crowd would not be disappointed as they witnessed a spectacular show.
The feature event had the crowd on their feet as Jacksonville’s Johnny Collins held on to take the victory over Josh Peacock, Keith Nosbisch, Rich Pratt and Jackie Nosbisch Jr. Dover, FL driver Wallace Peacock raced his way into the show by winning the 20 lap “Dash for Cash” and Phillip Cobb was the winner B-Main 2.
The Limited Sprints were also on the schedule and “Mean” Gene Lasker showed why he was still the man to beat. During the event, the front wing on the 8g car collapsed and finally blew off, but Lasker was undeterred. He powered his way to victory lane over Greg Leonard and Tim George who finished 2nd and 3rd. Lasker and Leonard also won both heat races.
A great run by the youngster from Seffner was spoiled when Alex Boerner was found light in tech after celebrating what he was hoping to be his 1st victory in the Gagel Auto Parts Open-Wheel Modified division. #63 Scotty Williams would be rewarded with the win and his 2nd victory of the 2008 racing season. Bruce Harvey and Jamie Burrows finished 2nd and 3rd while John Bradley and Austin Sanders rounded out the top 5.
Although close at the end, Jim Courson won his 3rd out of 4 races in the Outlaw 4’s division in convincing fashion over Shane Burrows, Stephen Hohlbaugh, Jerry Bruce and Maverick Varnadore.
22 cars made the field for the Convire 4-Cylinder Bomber feature and despite winning his 3rd out of 4 feature races, Frank Miller still trails Colin Kruse, who finished 2nd in the feature by merely 8 points in the overall points championship. The Odessa Flash, George Christian finished 3rd while Jeffery Porter and DW Lester crossed the finish line 4th and 5th.
ASA sanctioned racing resumes at Eastbay Raceway Park Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 at 6:30pm. The ASCS 360 Sprints make their return to the “Clay by the Bay” along with the Limited Sprints, the Motorstats.com Street Stocks, the Outlaw 4’s, the Convire 4-Cylinder Bombers and the Vintage Racecars of Yesterday.
