New Faces in Victory Lane at Lake City Speedway

By Shirley Lynch

With racing season closed at several area tracks, many drivers took the opportunity to come try their cars at Lake City Speedway and at least three of them weren't disappointed with their results.

The Street Stock Division started off the evening with three exciting heat races that left the crowd anticipating a full blown war during the feature. The first heat race was won by the #79 of Duane Techenbrock with the #27 of Jason Garver hot on his heels and the #7 of Tim Conrad finishing third. Heat Race two was all about the #74 of Don Martin, Jr. as he got a good jump on the first lap and led to the checkers. The #23 of Charles Smith crossed second and the #28 of Nick Reid took third. The third heat race of the night was won by Eddie Gainey driving the #0 Street Stock. The #69 of David Tyrrell finished second and the #11 of Ricky Simpson crossed third.

As twenty-one Street Stocks lined up for their feature race, it was anyone's guess who would win 25 laps later and you could hear the crowd picking their favorites as the race got underway. Duane Teckenbrock led the first five laps, but couldn't hold off Eddie Gainey as he made his move to pass on lap 6. Jason Garver was running a close third as he made sure Teckenbrock knew he was there, but mechanical problems forced Garver to the pit on lap 19. The #74 of Don Martin, Jr. also got bitten by the bad luck bug as his ride failed him on lap 15. Tim Conrad, driving the #7 hung in the top five until lap 21 when he pitted and the #33B driven by Clay Bedenbaugh moved into second with the #44 of Dean Sands moving into third. Finishing order for the Street Stock Division was the #0 of Eddie Gainey taking the win, #33B of Clay Bedenbaugh taking second, the #44 of Dean Sands having a great run for third, the #69 of David Tyrrell finishing fourth and the #41 of Randy Smith finishing fifth.

The Ministock heat race was won by the #31 of Barry Knight with #33 of Justin Durbin finishing second and the #59 driven by Greg Young crossing third.

As the green flag dropped on the shortened Ministock Feature, the #33 of Justin Durbin got the jump to take the lead and the #38 of Joey Durbin tucked in behind. The #31 of Barry Knight moved up from the rear to take 2nd place on lap 8 and when the checkers flew, found himself the winner with the #38 of Joey Durbin finishing in second, the #59 of Greg Young in third and the #33 of Justin Durbin taking fourth place honors.

The Pure Stock Division ran two fast heat races as they got down to business and only pulled one caution in two races. Heat race one was won by the #78 of Dean Woodward with the #98 of Joe Clark taking second and the #65 of Coleman Jandle III finishing third. The #61 of Mike Tripp took the win on heat race two and the #20 of Travis Williams crossed second, followed by the #28 of Shane Taylor.

Dean Woodward, winner of the first heat race got the jump when the green flag waved with the #65 of Coleman Jandle III tucking in behind after starting in fifth. The #61 of Mike Tripp regained some lost ground by lap 10 as he passed Jandle to take the second place spot behind Woodward. Two laps later, Tripp made a pass on Woodward with the #34 of Wesley Keller waiting in third for his time to come. On lap 20, Keller put a move on Woodward, pushing him back to third. Someone must have thrown that bad luck bug in Tripp's car, as he retired from the race on lap 21, leaving Keller as leader and the #0 of Nevin Gainey in second and Woodward in third. As the #0 of Gainey caused the caution to come out on lap 24 and the #78 of Woodward got shuffled to fourth, the race came down to one last mad lap to the finish. Finishing order for the Pure Stock Feature was #34 of Wesley Keller taking the win, the #1 ooof Billy Joe Boyett crossing second, the #55 of Heath Walker finishing third, the #78 of Dean Woodward having a good run to take fourth and the #31 of Trisha Taylor once again finishing in the top 5.

Please join us at Lake City Speedway this Saturday, November 16th for an exciting 75 lap, $3,000 to win Super Late Model race, as well as Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and Ministocks. Also racing at the track will be the Florida Open Wheel Lites and gates will open early with the Lites qualifying and heat racing during the afternoon.
