Young Matt Bowers tops Sunbelt 125 at Orlando SpeedWorld

by Jane Smith

Orlando, FL (May 9, 2008) On a hot May afternoon with a slight cooling breeze at times, nineteen Super Late Models made their way to Orlando SpeedWorld for the Sunoco Sunbelt 125. It was Brian Finney of Merritt Island who topped the speed charts with a blistering 13.628 for fast time Following Finney were Justin Drawdy 13.631, Matt Bowers 13.665, Patrick Conrad 13.668, and Jeremy Colangelo 13.748.

Finney pulled the 3 pill putting Matt Bowers on the pole for the 125 lap event.

After driver introductions were made, it was finally time to go racing. When the green flag waved, it was Matt Bowers taking the point over Justin Drawdy, Brian Finney, Patrick Conrad and Tim Russell. Finney puts the heat on Drawdy taking over second but something must have...

Super Late Models Roll Into Charlotte County This Weekend

KARNAC Media

The last time the Super Late Models took to the pavement at Charlotte County Motorsports Park, it ended with a 1-2-3 of Wayne Anderson, Scot Walters and Patrick Williams. This Saturday night the #77 driven by Williams will be driven by Mike Franklin Jr., according to track promoter Bobby Diehl.

Franklin has been absent from the late model battles for a while, expect "Hollywood" to have his sights on the first prize. But he will have some stiff competition with Wayne Anderson returning along with Kevin Macy, Sean LeMaster and Daniel Webster.

A couple of the youngsters, Ross Chastain and Steven Nasse, will be in the field Saturday night at the Punta Gorda track. Th...

Travis Varnadore Gets First Late Model Feature Win

By Jason Loughren

Five classes of racing action were on the schedule at East Bay Raceway Park as the month of May started off with a bang. Around 100 cars took to the track for an exciting night of racing action on the Clay by the Bay.

The Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds were the first class to hit the track. Austin Sanders had the car to beat and quickly made his way to the lead from his 6th starting position. Sanders held off the charge of Jamie Burrows to take the win, which was his first of the season. Burrows finished 2nd. John Bradley, Bruce Harvey and Raymond Rogers rounded out the top 5. Dale Kelley and Sanders scored wins in the heat races.

Saying Goodbye is Never Easy

by Jane Smith

Lakeland, Fl (May 3, 2008) Last night at USA International, a sad part of today's economy saw the end of the Extreme Modified Series. Although Rick and Mel Hall did their best to promote the series and get drivers to come and join them to race, it was just not to be this year.

Quite a few drivers joined the series to run all year since they wanted to go to new places and not just stay at their local tracks but no one knew in the beginning of 2008 that things would and did get so bad for everyone. The price of gas to travel to a race has not helped and most drivers don't have deep pockets. If you must make a choice to race or save your house or put food on table, ...

Keith Nosbisch took fast time for the event hooking up on the Tampa Clay with a 16.149 second lap. Nosbisch was also the winner in the first of five heat races that took the top three out of each event to be locked into the 50...

Figure 8 Races Alive and Kicking and Citrus County Speedway

By Phil Schryver

Joey Catterelli - Winner PHOTO COURTESY of THE CAR SHOT PHOTO SHOP(813) 788-3899

Inverness, Fl. - Almost every week, no matter what track you go to on the west coast of Florida, you will hear someone mention how they miss Sunshine Speedway.

Well, the main event each week that everyone remembers about Sunshine Speedway was the wild and crazy figure 8 races. This weekend was my first opportunity to visit Citrus County Speedway, which I found to be a very friendly track with lots of great racing action.

This was also the first time I was able to experience a figure 8 race since Sunshine closed down. Many of the figure 8 drivers at Citrus are ...

by Jane Smith

Orlando, FL (April 28, 2008) Super Stocks are in for a treat this Friday night at Orlando SpeedWorld when not only do they get in free that night to race but also will have a 50 lap feature with NO entry fee.

"The Super Stocks have supported us all year and we just want to show them our appreciation," said General Manager Rusty Marcus. "Last Friday night it was Strictly Stock night at Orlando and all Strictly Stock drivers with a car got in free. I was alittle disappointed in the number but we are hop...

By Rick Anges

Series owner Ken Kinney (L) and Mark Whitener, driver of the #7

Phenix City, Ala. - The United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series has already turned a few heads in 2008. With two full races and one rain out to complete over 40 cars and crews have been on hand at each event much to the delight of the hard core dirt late model fans.

The series would make its first venture out of the Sunshine State to test the waters at the Historic and beautiful East Alabama Motor Speedway. Before the gates were opened the haulers were lined up from the pit gate all the way to the highway. Forty-Seven Late Models would roll through the 40 year-old speedways ga...

Sprints Highlight Citrus County Action

By Larry MacMillan

(Inverness, Fl. 4/19/08) - The Central Florida Wingless Sprints showed up at Citrus County Speedway 22 cars strong and put on quite a show for the fans. In 3 heats and a 30 lap feature they saw just about every situation possible arising from multi car crashes to roll overs and high speed competition.

The first green flag fell on the first heat and a three car crash cropped up on turn one that wiped out the front suspension of Lil Jimmy Alvis #21 and taking the other two cars into the infield.

Four out of seven cars ran into problems in the second heat getting DNF’s and the third heat went flag to flag without incident. It was the feature race that...

Anderson Dirt Debut Spoiled; Ivedent Lloyd Takes Win

by BJ Cavin

Ocala, Fl. - An almost perfect night for racing greeted fans and competitors alike at Florida's oldest speedway on Friday night, and the big story was not so much what was going on but who was participating in it.

Wayne Anderson had his new dirt late model at the track and ready to attack the Ocala Speedway clay, and the fans cheered as he drove onto the track for hot laps. But unfortunately for Anderson and the fans, his night was an extremely short one.

The 84 machine ended up backed into the turn 2 wall during hot laps and left with the rear end visibly shifted, plus some rear end body damage, thus ending Anderson's dirt debut before it even got started.
