Choquette Grabs First Win at East Bay

by Ken Sands
Tampa, Fla - Jeff Choquete of West Palm Beach held off
a star studded LATE MODEL field to grab his first
career win on Saturday at East Bay Raceway Park, the
youngster has been close in the last few weeks and
finally was able to take the top spot as he held off
former champs Keith Nosbisch and Donnie Tanner. The
Hoosier Tire sponsored event found Choquette and Roger
Crouse sitting on the front row by luck of the draw,
with Choquette grabbing the lead at the start and
never looking back. Keith Nosbsich, Donnie Tanner,
David Schmauss, and Bobby Alexander, Jr. rounded out
the top five.

In SPRINTS it was Sport Allen taking the Mr. Budweiser
Championship win over Jeff Swindell, Johnny Gilbertson,
Paulie Milum and Michael Smith.

David Schmauss subbing for the injured Dale Pope
topped the Mr. Budweiser LIMITED LATE MODEL Championship
race over Roger Crouse, Jamie Burrows, David Reutimann,
and Bill Howard.

Scotty Williams had his motor go sour coming out of turn
4 at the finish, but the former track Champ had enough of
a lead to coast home for the win and the title of Mr.
Budweiser MINI STOCK Champ. Robert Douglas, Brian Debore,
Dorsey Strickland and Rick Partridge rounded out the
top 5.

Don Gansner took the lead from Bruce Harvey on lap 11 and
held on to claim the 25 lap Mr. Budweiser STREET STOCK
title over Harvey, Ron Pope, Tim Hunt and Mac Kersey.

In the WOYK challenge Dave McKay race it was lucky fan
Phillip Hiller of Brandon outrunning McKay and taking the
win.

The Budweiser LATE MODEL Dash was taken by Jack Nosbisch,
Jr.

The regular season draws to a close and the track will
now be ready preparing for the 27th Annual Winter
Nationals which are scheduled to begin in January.
