Storer Wins FMSC Race at Bronson Motor Speedway

by Rick Warren

The fans at Bronson Motor Speedway were treated to some
great racing action Saturday night, as the Florida Mini
Stock Challenge Series rolled into town. They brought
some of the best Mini-Stock cars and drivers in Florida
and Georgia with them. These Ladies and Gentlemen put
on a very competitive and professional show wherever they
go, and this was was no exception.

Twenty eight cars were registered for the event with 26
cars starting the race. Fast qualifying time of 14.878
secs. was posted by Clint Foley of Dunnellon, Fl. in
the Triple H Chassis entry. Luck of the draw inverted
the 5 fastesst qualifiers, and put Robbie Storer on the
pole for the start of the 50 lap feature.

When the green flag flew, Storer jumped to the lead and
proceded to show the fast way around the track. In only
a few laps, however, Storer had a mirror full of Clint
Foley's race car, and these two raced each other hard
for quite a few laps. Unfortunately for Foley, Lady
Luck was not riding with him this night, and with only
5 laps remaining, the motor in Foley's car developed
problems and Foley fell off the pace, opening the door
for Frank Welch who had been running hard and steadily
gaining on the leaders.

Also running strong was Rick Sirmans, who after having
early problems, came all the way from the rear to join
the battle for the win. When the checkered flag finally
flew it was Robbie Storer bring the #9 Front Wheel
Drive Performance/Autoland entry home for the win.
Closely following was Frank Welch in the #96 Lifestyle
Pools entry. Finishing a hard fought third was Rick
Sirmans in the #05 Fascats Cattery entry.

All the fans at Bronson appreciated the show these guys
put on and look forward to them returning for more
racing action.

The Bronson Racing Series cars were also in action and
the regulars were not going to let the mini stocks out-
shine them at providing excitement. The Modifieds were
up next for their 30 lap feature and from the start it
was non stop action. The number of entries was down
slightly but the action was hot.

Early in the race, Monty Morgan and Kevin Durden got
together entering turn 3 and the rsulting contact
caused the #07 car of Larry Martin to have a very hard
hit into the wall. After the accident was cleared and
racing resumed, the race became a battle to survive as
the racers were more and more agressive each lap. Many
restarts later, the race was finally won by Ricky
McManaway by a bumper length over Kevin Durden. It was
the first win at Bronson for McManaway in the #04 ar.
Third was Steve Perez in the #92.

The Sportsman, Pure Stock and V8 Bombers were also in
action and it was a full night of great racing action.
Don't forget, next Saturday night, October 19, the
always exciting Figure Eight Racers return to Bronson
Motor Speedway along with the regular Bronson Racing
Series. See Ya There!!!
