New Smyrna Speedway Points Battles Heat Up

As the season winds down, the points battles wind up as
there are alot of divisions that can be won by a number
of racers.

Special event for the night was the Super Mini Cup cars.
These fast, minature Super Late Models, put on one heck
of a show for the fans.

Winning the heats was the #3 and #71x. On the pole for
their 20 lap feature was the #71 but it was the #3x who
lead up until the very last laps when the #57 passed
him and took the point. Following #57 to the checkers
was #3x, #17, #05, #71, #70, #3, #46, #44 and #83.

Super Stocks saw Shane Stacy #32 on the pole for their
feature event. But it was the #23 Charlie Collins, who
for once had an engine that did not blow, taking the
point on the green and never relinquishing it.

On lap 4, Bill Stacy #11 and Ted Head #27 got together
coming off turn 4. Stacy hit the frontstretch wall
ending his race for the night but okay. Head was black
flagged and went into the pits.

On the restart, Collins quickly took the point once again
with Ron Whaley #2 close behind. Whaley tried but could
never pass Collins. Following Collins to the checkers
was #2 Ron Whaley, #21 Josh Wronkowski, #32 Shane Stacy,
#45 Mike Soukup, #61 Ted Helmes, #llx Bill Loomis, #59
David Castello, #50 Stephen Demensky, and #91 Alan Dillon.

Heat wins went to #2 Ron Whaley and #23 Charlie Collins.

Super Late Models saw #33 Ricky Wood on the pole for their
20 lap feature but it was Jim "Hoot" Flynn #57 who quickly
took the lead over Wood. After a lap 1 caution, Wood and
#7 Mark Vandevender were sent to the rear of the field
and the #8 Brent Hobbs retired to the pits.

On the restart, Flynn once again took the point but on lap
3 another caution was thrown. On the restart, David
Rogers #11 quickly went to the lead and that was all she
wrote. Following Rogers to the checkers was #3 Wayne
Parker, #57 Jim "Hoot" Flynn, #33 Ricky Wood, #7 Mark
Vandevender, #27 Mike Good, and #8 Brent Hobbs.

Ron Lufcy #07 sat on the pole for the Sportsman division
and was able to take the point at the green. It looked
like Lufcy might have the car tonight to win but coming
up from the rear of the field was #111 Donnie Williams
and #4 Rick Johns.

Williams worked his way into second passing Marty Wolf #3
and set his sights on Lufcy. Williams was able to take
the lead from Lufcy with Rick Johns taking over the
second spot with Lufcy now third.

Following Williams to the checkers was #4 Rick Johns,
#07 Ron Lufcy, #2 Bill Love, #3 Marty Wolf, , #29
Michael Albert, #46 Mike Trocki, #1 Steve Redditt,
#28 Chris Peludant, #55 Jim Snyder, #70 John Nusbaum,
and #28x Mike Soukup (in his first race in his new
Sportsman).

Heat winners was #07 Ron Lufcy and #4 Rick Johns.

Dick Lazslo #07 sat on the pole for the Mini Stock
feature but it was the #71 Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulipus
who took the point and never looked back. McPhail
tried to catch Vulipus but tonight was not the night.

David Castello #1, coming from the rear, made his way
up to second passing McPhail but was not able to reel
in Vulipus. Rex Christensen had a good run in his #v3
new body Mini Stock.

Following Vulipus to the checkers was #1 David Castello,
#7 Tim "Missileman" McPhail, #07 Dick Lazslo, #v3 Rex
Christensen, #28 Sean Bass, #0 Vern Rozier, #4 Ron
Debeau, #36 Whit Satterwhite, #00 Mike Sible, and #14
Katherine Thomas.

Heat wins went to #1 David Castello and #7 Tim
"Missileman" McPhail.

Bobby Blake #2x sat on the pole for the Modified division
but it was Wayne Parker #3 who took the point and the
checkers. Following Parker was #7 Mark Vandevender,
#2x Bobby Blake, #99 Jeff Anderson, #19p Charlie Paschel,
#88 Paul Duncan, #16 David LeBeau, and #20 Ed Kuhel.

Bobby Blake took the heat win.

Charlie Merz #7 sat on the pole for the Late Model
feature. Merz, who lost third gear, did a great job
of using just fourth gear but it was not quite enough
to hold off #43 Randy Dye from taking the lead.

Dye kept the point until #63 Chris Lawrence, coming off
his first win at DeSoto Speedway, took the lead and
never looked back. Following Lawrence to the checkers
was #43 Randy Dye, #7 Charlie Merz, #8 Tim Clark, #68
Jimbo Bjordland, #48 Mark Smith, #00 Scott Seither,
#11 Steve Redditt, and #721 John Bennett.

Charlie Merz #7 took the heat win.

Strictly Stocks saw the #65x James Smith, Sr. on the
pole for the feature event and leading but it was the
hard charging #91 Todd Driscall who was able to knock
Smith, Sr. off the point.

Following Driscall to the checkers was #65s James Smith,
Sr., #62 Travis Scott, #66 Tim Edmundson, #63 Curtis
Smith, #65 James Smith, #33 Jerry Mitchell, #39 Jeremy
Hovencamp, #27 Barry Parks, and #55 Jim Messenger.

Heat wins went to #65s James Smith Sr. and #91 Todd
Driscall.

Next week at New Smyrna Speedway heats and features in
all divisions except Super Late Models and Late Models
who will be at Lakeland's USA International for the
Sunbelt Super Late Model Series, Goodyear Challenge
Late Model Series and FASTRUCKS Octoberfest. Also,
Strictly Stock 25 lap feature.
