Tim Clark Claims First Late Model Win at New Smyrna Speedway

by Jane Smith
Samsula, Fla - Tim Clark, the 1999 Mini Stock Point
Champion at New Smyrna Speedway, won not only his
first heat race in his new Late Model but also took
his first feature race.

Clark not only sat on the pole for the feature event
but lead flag to flag for the all green flag Late
Model race. Following Clark #8 to the checkers was
#7 Charlie Merz, #68 Jimbo Bjorland, #48 Mark Smith,
#00 and #11 Steve Redditt.

It was another door-to-door, nose-to-tail Mini Stock
thriller as Ted Vulipus #71 sat on the pole for the
feature event. Tim "Missileman" McPhail #7 quickly
took the point on the green. Winner from two weeks
ago, David Castello #1, started in the rear from his
win but quickly worked his way into the third spot
following Vulipus.

Castello was able to pass Vulipus and take second
setting his sights on McPhail. As the two battled
each other for the lead, Castello found the power he
needed, passed McPhail and it was all she wrote as
Castello lead the field to the checkers.

Vulipus, who was running a strong third, developed
a mechanical problem sliding back to the fifth place
spot giving the third position to Dick Lazslo #07.
Crossing the stripe behind Castello was #7 Tim
"Missileman" McPhail, #07 Dick Lazslo, #11 Pug Puglisi,
#71 Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulipus, #v3 Rex Christensen,
#36 Whit Satterwhite, #00 Mike Sible, and #33 Bob
Delnostro.

Ted Vulipus #71 was the heat winner.

Mark Vandevender #7 sat on the pole for the Open Wheel
Modified feature but it was Friday night's winner at
Ocala Speedway, David Baxley #64 who quickly jumped
to the point and never looked back.

Baxley, who is the Fall points leader at Ocala Speedway
in the Modified division, made his first appearance at
New Smyrna Speedway showing the New Smyrna boys how
the Ocala boys do it.

Justin Henderson, who is leading the points for the
Modified division at New Smyrna Speedway and who blew
his motor last week, was driving the #00 Modified
driven by Brad May in the Pro Modified Series.
Henderson and #13 Kevyn Terry, also of Ocala Speedway,
got together putting Terry into the wall. Terry was
done for the night and Henderson was sent to the rear
of the field.

On the restart, Baxley once again jumped to the point
over #7 Mark Vandevender. The #20 Ed Kuhel and #00
Justin Henderson touch but Kuhel is able to gather up
his machine and continued on. Henderson was black
flagged but does not come in losing his fourth place
spot in scoring.

Following Baxley to the stripe was #7 Mark Vandevender,
#2x Jimmy Winks, #l Jim Coverdale, #88 Paul Duncan,
#20 Ed Kuhel, #00 Justin Henderson and #13 Kevyn Terry.

Mark Vandevender #7 won the heat race.

Mike Trocki #46 sat on the pole for the Sportsman
feature but it was the #111 Donnie Williams who took
the lead from Trocki on the second lap.

Williams, who has won almost every Sportsman race this
year and is leading the points championship for that
division, seems to have the car to beat.

Two cautions were thrown for this feature with the
#29 spinning and #19 Mitch Dougherty losing a tire
and coming into the pits on his rim.

Williams took the checkers with #3 Marty Wolf, #46
Mike Trocki, #70 John Nusbaum, #55 Jim Snyder, #29,
#19 Mitch Dougherty, #07 Ron Lufcy, and # David Rowe.

Williams won the heat race.

Wayne Parker #3, in his new South 40 Motorsports
built Super Late Model, sat on the pole for the Super
Late Model event. Parker took the point on the green
fighting off a hard-charing Ricky Wood #33 and points
leader David Rogers #11.

Rogers was able to take over the second spot from Wood
and then set his eyes on Parker. Parker battled hard
but Rogers proved why he is leading the points in the
Super Late Model division. Following Rogers to the
checkers was #3 Wayne Parker, #33 Ricky Wood, #7 Mark
Vandevender, #8 Brent Hobbs, and #34 Bobby Fleckenger
who was running his first race at New Smyrna Speedway.

Ricky Wood #33 won the heat race.

Jason Foster #49 sat on the pole for the large field
of Super Stocks. But it was the points leader Ted
Helmes #61 who quickly took the point and never looked
back. Josh Wronkowski #21 and Ron Whaley #2 were doing
some side-by-side action both wanting the number two
spot. Whaley would eventually take it but had to retire
to the pits with mechanical problems.

Mike Soukup #45 took over the second spot but Wronkowski
battled Soukup hard and crossed right in front of
Soukup at the stripe in second place.

Following Helmes to the stripe were #21 Josh Wronkowski,
#45 Mike Soukup, #16 David Gould, #3 Jeff Colburn, #11
Shane Stacy, #11b Nick Vogler, #49 Jason Foster, #66
Dean McGlothin, #91 Alan Dillon, and #10 Ron Paradise.

Heat winners were Mike Soukup #45 and Ron Whaley #2.

Barry Parks #27 had the number one spot for the Strictly
Stocks division. Parks was able to quickly take the
point andno one was able to catch him. Following Parks
to the checkers was #91 Todd Driscall, #66 Tim Edmundson,
#63 Curtis Smith, #65 James Smith, #11x Kerry Payne, #62
Travis Scott, #65s James Smith, Sr., #39 Jerry Hovencamp,
#10 Roger Ladeau, #64 and #15 Mike Watford.

Four out of the top five failed to go thru tech and
were disqualifed.

Todd Driscall #91 and Barry Parks #27 were the heat
winners.

Next week at New Smyrna Speedway there will be heats
and features for the Super Late Models, Late Models,
Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, and
Strictly Stocks PLUS the Super Mini Cup cars.
