Teckenbrock and O'Steen Win at Lake City Speedway

By Shirley Lynch

The Street Stock Division got off to a roaring start under beautiful blue skies and no rain threatening when the #33B of Adam Bedenbaugh took the lead on the first heat race and led all 6 laps with the #00 driven by Randy Smith finished 2nd and the #44 of Dean Sands came in 3rd. The 2nd heat race provided plenty of excitement as the #8 of Debbie Shepard beat the #79 of Duane Teckenbrock to the first turn. The #48 of Shane Taylor dropped into the 2nd position on lap 3 and committed parent abuse as he bumped and rubbed on his Mom, Debbie Shepard in an effort to snatch the victory. However, age and treachery overcame youth and enthusiam as Mom refused to surrender her rightful place at the head of the line. Finish for heat race two was #8 Debbie Shepard, #48 Shane Taylor and #38 Randy Merwin.

When the flag dropped on the Street Stock Feature, the #33B of Adam Bedenbaugh took the lead with the #00 driven by Randy Smith close behind and#48 of Shane Taylor tucked in 3rd position. #33B pitted on lap 8, giving the lead to Smith and 2nd place to #44 of Dean Sands. Smith retired to the pits on lap 9, and Sands and Taylor settled in for the long haul. By lap 11, the #79 of Duane Teckenbrock had found the high groove to his liking as he motored from 11th place starting position to 3rd. Teckenbrock made a pass on Taylor on lap 13 to take over 2nd position and Sands held on until lap 18, before Teckenbrock made his move to take the checkers nine laps later. Finishing order was #79 of Duane Teckenbrock coming from the back to win, #44 of Dean Sands finishing 2nd, #38 Randy Merwin crossing 3rd, #48 of Shane Taylor taking 4th and #29 of Marvin Hassell in 5th position.

The #27 of Rance Phillips started on the pole of the Late Model Sportsman heat but #55 Wayne Stevens made a pass on lap 3 to win the heat race. Finishing order was #55 Wayne Stevens, #83 Kelly Philman, #27 Rance Phillips, #79 Jason Davis, #31 Smokey Spivey.

Stevens and Philman dropped into 1st and 2nd on the Late Model Sportsman Feature and refused to relinquish their lead to any comers. The #27 of Rance Phillips mounted a serious challenge when he passed Philman on lap twelve, but Philman refused to be outdone and returned the favor on the next lap as Phillips got a little high on turn two. Finishing order was #55 Wayne Stevens taking the win, #83 of Kelly Philman finishing 2nd, #27 of Rance Phillips crossing 3rd, #79 of Jason Davis taking 4th and #31 of Smokey Spivey finishing 5th.

The Modified heat race was won by the #29 of Jason Fitzgerald, followed by the #M4 of Leon Allgyer, #56 of Chris Martin and the F1 of Kyle Owen.

The #29 of Jason Fitzgerald came through turns one and two as the leader with the #F1 of Kyle Owen stuck to his rear bumper and the #M4 of Leon Allgyer following close behind. Fans were on the edge of their seats as the #F1 of Kyle Owen looked for and tried to make an opportunity to put the pass on Fitzgerald, but couldn't quite pull it off on the shortened 12 lap race. Finishing order was #29 Jason Fitzgerald, #F1 of Kyle Owen, #M4 of Leon Allgyer and #56 Chris Martin.

The first Pure Stock heat race was led flag to flag by the #97 of Joey Rolling with the #34 of Wesley Keller finishing close behind and the #04 of Jack Mosley crossing 3rd. Heat race two was won by the #31 of Trisha Taylor who drove a new car to a first place finish with the #17 of Gene O'Steen challenging, but falling short and the #L88 of J.D. Coffey finishing 3rd.

As the Pure Stock Feature got underway, everyone held their breath as the 16 car field entered that crucial turn one and two area that has caused so many problems in the past. Three restarts later the #34 of Wesley Keller came out on top as the #17 of Gene O'Steen matched him move for move until lap 8 when O'Steen completed a pass to take over the first place position. The #31 of Trisha Taylor tucked in 3rd and drove an excellent race with a new car that handled like a dream. The #15 of Brad Paulson pulled out all the tricks but was unable to pass Taylor and the #32 of Jackie Thompson put Paulson back to 5th on lap 20 as Paulson was focused on the car in front of him and not who was creeping up from behind. Finishing order for the Pure Stock Feature was #17 of Gene O'Steen winning the race to maintain his points lead for the season, #34 of Wesley Keller driving to a good 2nd place finish, the #31 of Trisha Taylor finishing in 3rd, the #32 of Jackie Thompson crossing 4th and the #15 of Brad Paulson taking 5th place honors.

Lake City Speedway invites everyone to come out next Saturday night for more exciting racing and appreciates everyone's support. Watch for more news on our October 26th program when we will host 100 lap features for Street Stock, Pure Stock and Ministock with the largest winning payout of the season and drivers from all over Florida taking a shot at "bringing home the big money".
