Hanna had her Way at Lake City Speedway | By Shirley Lynch
There are some things in life that we just can't control and the arrival of Tropical Storm Hanna last Saturday was one of those. As many new cars arrived to get one last weekend of practice in before the big race, the skies opened up and we had to call it a night.
Lake City Speedway will be hosting the 1st Annual Florida State Championship Late Model Sportsman Challenge Series Friday, September 20th and Saturday, September 21. Some of the biggest names in Late Model Sportsman racing, along with many of our well known local Late Model drivers will mix it up for 100 laps of nailbiting excitement to see who goes home with the $10,000 1st place prize money and bragging rights until next year. Entry fee for the event is $300, with a $300 payout to start the feature and a $600 to win B-Main for those LM's not qualifying for the feature race. With a starting field of 36 cars, this race will prove to be one of the most competitive on the LM circuit and anything can and probably will happen. Qualifying and heats for all classes will be Friday night with feature racing on Saturday night starting at 7:30 p.m.
For those of you whose main interest is in local classes, the Speedway will also run 40 lap features for Modified, Street Stock, Pure Stock and Ministock with $1,000 to win, based on a minimum 18 car field. We invite all racers and fans to visit the track this weekend to enjoy the festivities.
