Eric Black Takes Super Late Model Win at NSS

In spite of an early afternoon rain, racing went on at
New Smyrna Speedway. Heat and features were on the
program with the Officials race.

Charlie Collins #23 and Ted Helms #61 were the heat
winners for the Super Stocks. Ted Helms sat on the
pole for the feature event and jumped to the lead on
the green but it was the #23 Charlie Collins who passed
Helms and took the number one spot. Following Collins
to the checkers was #2 Ron Whaley, #07 Kevin Auguer,
#45 Mike Soukup, #21 Josh Wronkowski, #211 Jack Lenzen,
#66 Dean McGlobin, #50 Stephen Demensky, #91 Allen Dillon,
and #ll Shane Stacy.

Ron Lufcy #07 and Bill Spade #15x were the heat winners
for the Sportsman division. Bill Spade sat on the pole
for the feature event but it was Ron Lufcy #07 who
quickly jumped to the lead. Lufcy held the lead for 14
laps until the #111, coming from the rear, made his way
up the field and beside Lufcy. Williams made the pass,
made it stick, and took the win. Following Williams
to the checkers was #07 Ron Lufcy, #3 Marty Wolf, #70
John Nusbaum, #19 Mitch Dougherty, #09 Dusty Downer,
#69Jake, and #18 Brian Dela.

Eric Black #10 Super Late took both the heat win and the
feature win. Black, who has been missing in action for
alittle while, returned to racing ready to rumble. Wayne
Parker #3 sat on the pole for the Super Late feature but
it was Black who charged to the front and never looked
back. Following Black across the checkers was #3 Wayne
Parker, #63 Joe Fitos, #7 Mark Vandevender, #5 Derrick
Strong, and #57 Jim "Hoot" Flynn.

Rob Underwood #09 and Bobby Blake #2x (last night's winner
at Orlando SpeedWorld in the #75) were the heat winners
for the open wheel modifieds. Don Keithly #75 sat on
the pole for the feature event but it was points leader
#16 Justin Henderson who took the lead. Henderson and
Blake battled for laps over the lead with Blake finally
getting the pass over Henderson and taking the lead.
Following Blake across the checkers was #16 Justin
Henderson, #70 Dave Savicki, #32 Red Vann, #09 Rob
Underwood, #3 Wayne Parker, #7 Mark Vandevender, #75
Don Keithly, #4, #8 Sean Price, #19p Charlie Paschel,
#20 Ed Kuhel, #l Jim Coverdal.

In the Officials Race is was the #29 James Adams on
the pole for their feature. On the drop of the green,
#211 Don Nerone quickly made his way to the front and
going into turns one and two, we lost the #2 Barbara
Pierce, #29 James Adams, #3 Chuck Rush and saw some
damage on the #23 Art Chapman. When the green came
out again, we saw the #66 Butch Pierce take the lead
and we had two new cars on the track, the PT Cruiser
of Robert Hart and our own Official Pace Truck.
Eventually the racing got too hot for the lapped PT
Cruiser and Pace Truck and it was the #23 Art Chapman
who took the lead over #211 Don Nerone and #66 Butch
Pierce. White Chapman went ahead, Nerone and Pierce
were going door-to-door, handle-to-handle for quite a
few laps with Nerone finally taking over the second
spot.

OFFICIAL FINISH FOR THE OFFICIALS RACE
1. #23 Art Chapman
2. #211 Don Nerone
3. #66 Butch Pierce
4. #2 Barbara Pierce (DNF)
5. #3 Chuck Rush (DNF)
6. #29 James Adams (DNF)

Brian Bellaw #77 took the heat win for the Late Models.
Just a note, in this heat race we saw one of the dumbest
moves of all time. The #4 Cindy Strahley spun on the
frontstretch and on the restart, came off pit road right
in front of leaders #77 Bellaw and #63 Chris Lawrence.
Lawrence and Bellaw had to go around Strahley coming out
of turn 2 trying not to hit her or each other. Lawrence
spun but was able to keep his car off the wall. On the
restart, he was given back his spot.

In the feature Late Model race, it was the very striking
#48 Mark Smith who sat on the pole for the feature event.
Bobby Orr #26 jumped to the lead on the green but was
unable to hold off Lawrence who took over and lead the
way to the checkers. Following Lawrence was #77 Brian
Bellaw, #26 Bobby Orr, #7 Charlie Merz, #23 David Pletka,
#48 Mark Smith, #4 Cindy Strahley, and #ll Steve Redditt.

Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulipus #71 and #1 David Castello took
the heat wins for the Mini Stock division. On the pole
for the feature event was Vulipus who quickly took the
lead. Tim "Missileman" McPhail was coming to the front but
suffered electrical problems giving the second spot to
#KD1 Terry Cady. Castello, coming from the rear, slowly
made his way to the front and chased Vulipus but ran out
of laps. Vulipus took the win followed by #1 Castello,
#KD1 Terry Cady, #11 Pug Puglisi, #38 Ben Hutto, #00 Mike
Sible, #v3 Rex Christenson, #90 Stover, #77 Jamie
Williams, #33 Bob Delmastro and #38x. After the race,
money was put up to have the #71 torn down. The #71 was
found illegal and was dq'd and the win was given to
#l David Castello.

Tim Edmundson #66 and James Smith, Sr. #65S took the heat
wins for the Strictly Stocks. On the pole for the feature
event was #65S James Smith, Sr. Tim Edmundson #66 took
the lead but it was the #55 Jeff Messenger who wanted
the win and got the win. Following #55 Jeff Messenger to
the checkers was #66 Tim Edmundson, #20 Justin Reynolds,
#91 Todd Driscall, #62 Travis Scott, #27 Barry Parks,
#65S James Smith, Sr., #65 James Smith.
