Bobby Alexander Sr. Grabs East Bay Late Model Win

With a heads up start for the main, heat winners Joe Melnick and Daryl Smith made up the front row for the 18 car SPRINT starting field. Smith got the bite coming for the green and took the lead into turn 1 with Melnick trying every trick in his arsenal to get the lead from the third generation hot shoe.

On lap 5, 5th place starting Sport Allen took over second and tried to outrun Smith, but Smith held him off. 9th place starter Kenny Adams moved into third on lap 7 and battled with Allen for second while Smith began to pull away from the 2 former track Champions.

On lap 22 of the scheduled 25 lapper Smith got caught behind the lapped car of Frank Carlsson Jr. opening the door for Adams to make a dive below Smith and take the top spot.

Sport Allen would spin out on the next lap bringing out a yellow giving Smith one last shot at getting back around the seasoned veteran Adams. Smith dove under Adams in turn 1 but Adams pulled back into the lead down the backstretch and held on to claim his first win of the season at East Bay.

Former track Champ Johnny Gilbertson just nipped Smith at the checker for second, Smith held on for third over Joe Melnick and 2002 Champ Brian Maddox. Adams stated in victory lane "It was good to be back home at East Bay, boy the competition has sure stepped up and I really had nothing for Daryl had he not got caught in lapped traffic, he sure has improved" By winning his heat and his third place finish Smith is now sitting atop the point standings in the Mr. Bud series by 1 point over Joe Melnick.

In LATE MODELS, heat winner Bobby Alexander Jr. charged to the top spot from his outside front row starting spot and held off Jeff Mathews for the first 8 laps when Keith Nosbisch took second from Mathews and battled Bobby Jr. until lap 13 where he put his Lacey Tax #02 out front only to relinquish the lead to the high flying Bobby Alexander Sr. in his Rita's Antiques #15 on lap 17. Alexander Sr. then held off Nosbisch the rest of the way to claim his 5th win of the season. Nosbisch held on for second over Bobby Alexander Jr., Jeff Mathews and Devin Dixon. Bobby Alexander Jr. leads the Mr. Bud Late Model Series points by 1 point over Jeff Mathews.

In LIMITED LATE MODELS, Terry Bronson took the lead from David Boerner on lap 3 and held off a hard charging Dale Pope who started back in 23rd spot to claim his 3rd win of the season. Following Bronson and Pope was J R Prather Jr over William Hampton and 2002 point champ Terry Gay. Terry Bronson sits atop the Mr. Bud Series point standings 2 points in front of William Hampton.

In MINI STOCKS it was Scotty Williams passing 2002 Point Champ Dorsey Strickland on lap 7 to take the top spot and easily cruise home the winner. Strickland started on the pole and held the top spot until 6th place starter Williams went around him. Chad Rose got around Strickland on lap 10 and set his sight on his team mate Williams, but WIlliams was long gone and Rose had to settle for second over Strickland, Jim Courson and David Schmauss who was piloting the car normally driven by Rick Partridge. Williams and Strickland are tied atop the Mr. Bud Series point standings.

Danny Paris took the lead at the start and looked like he would claim his first STREET STOCK win of the season, however when Tommy Mena dove under him on lap 11 the two came together resulting in both dropping out giving the lead to Jason Bronson who held off Steven Johnson to claim hi 6th win of the season, Hollie Smith had a great run to come home third over Don Gansner and Eric Johnson. Jason Bronson sits 2 points in front of Steve Johnson in the Mr. Bud Series points. Action continues at the 1/3 mile dirt oval on Sept. 14 with another Mr. Bud Series point race.
