It's time to race!

Russell Takes Late Model Win at New Smyrna Speedway

The stands were full in anticipation of the night's
School Bus race for the Florida's Sheriffs Youth
Ranch. It would be features only for the night.

As always, the 911 guys put on a great show. With
lights flashing and some really good door-to-door
racing, the fans were on the edge of their seats.
Wade Hatcher #0 sat on the pole but it was an all
out battle between him and the #27 Clark Wagner
for the first third of the laps. Once Hatcher
shook off the hard charging Wagner, he had his
hands full with #2 Bob Hart. Once Hart got the
lead, that was all she wrote. Crossing the
checkered after #2 Bob Hart was #27 Clark Wagner,
#0 Wade Hatcher, #10 Steve Wagner, and #47 Joe
Gill.

#36 Tim Russell had something to prove after his
disappointment in not starting the Goodyear
Challenge race the week before. He got ready to
start his car and water, not a good sign. But
Russell took the lead in the feature event and
never looked back. Following Russell to the
finish was #77 Brian Bellaw, #128 A.J. Currelli,
#53x ?? and #23 David Pletka.

It was Ted Helms #61 all the way in the Super
Stocks. Helms not only sat on the pole but he won
from the pole leading every single lap. Following
Helms to the finish line was #23 Charlie Collins,
#3 Jeff Colburn, #45 Mike Soukup, and #07 Kevin
Auger.

Jared Allison #02, points leader at Orlando Speed-
World for the Super Late Model division, sat on
the pole for the Super Late Model feature. On
his outside was B.J. McLeod #78 who returned to
his home tracks this weekend. Allison lead
briefly until McLeod took over. But it was the
new daddy in the field, #11 David Rogers, who
powered his TM Ranch to the lead and never looked
back. Following Rogers was #51 Jacob Warren,
#3 Wayne Parker (really pretty car), #33 Ricky
Wood, and #7 Mark Vandevender.

Sheriff Ben Johnson of Volusia County won the wild
and hairy bus race. Some of those buses were
really moving.

Next up was the Sportsman feature race. In the
field was 15 year old Terry Wright from St.
Augustine Speedway. Wright, in his #007 orange
truck, sat on the pole and gave the #111 Donnie
Williams a good run for the money. Although
Williams took the lead, Wright remained on his
tail the whole race almost passing him at one
point. Following #111 Donnie Williams and #007
Terry Wright were #07 Ron Lufcy, #70 John Nusbaum,
and #28 Chris Peludant.

Justin Henderson #16, who is leading the 2002 points
in the open wheel modified division, sat on the
pole for their feature event. Beside Henderson
was #57 Jim "Hoot" Flynn. Flynn jumped out to the
start but spun which caused a complete restart.
On the restart, Henderson grabbed the lead and
never looked back. Following Henderson to the
checkered was #57 Jim "Hoot" Flynn, missed the
3rd place finisher, #4b Allen Bruns, and #70.

Strictly Stocks saw the #91 on the pole and leading
for most of the race until the #62 Travis Scott
took the lead and won. Following Scott was #91,
#65 James Smith, Jr., #27 Barry Parks, and #63
Curtis Smith.

Next weekend, 8/24/02, the FASTRUCKS. Also it will
be double points for Mini Stocks ONLY.
