Allen Again in Sprints At East Bay

TAMPA, Fla. (August 10, 2002) - David Schamuss led from the start but had to hold off both Jack Nosbish Jr and Bobby Alexander Jr. to claim the win on Fan Appreciation Night.

The three battled torridly lap after lap, Alexander actually had the top spot for just one lap on lap 18, but Schmauss powered back around him and then had to hold off both the newly crowned 2002 Late Model Champ Jack Nosbisch Jr. and Alexander Jr.

Bill Howard and Devin Dixon rounded out the top 5. Heat wins went to Roger Crouse and Jack Nosbisch Jr.

The Sprints fell to Sport Allen for the second week in a row, howver it was probably the hardest fought battle for him all year.

Micheal Smith lead the 17 car field to the initial green and held the top spot until lap5 when Daryl Smith passed his cousin and began to pull away from the field, howver a yellow on lap 14 closed the field back up, on the restart Sport Allen dove under Smith in turn 2 and took the lead down the backstretch, Smith tried to dive back under Allen to no avail in turn 3, the 2 battled for the next few laps when Smith went too hard into turn 3 on lap 20 and spun.

Now it was Greg Leonard right on Allen's rear bumper on the next restart. Allen and Leonard battled for a lap, when Leonard went a little high in turn 4, Brian Maddox dove under him and held the second spot for 2 laps when Leonard got back around him and made a latch ditch effort to get Allen but had to settle for second.

It was Allen, Leonard, Maddox, Paulie Milum and Joe Melnick rounding out the top 5. Daryl Smith rebounded to finish in 6th. Heats went to Daryl Smith and Pulie Milum.

Forrest Gough topped the 24 car Limited Late Model field as he held off a hard charge by Terry Bronson, Bill Howard, Timmy Bronson and Jeremy Simpson rounded out the top 5.

Terry Bronson and Ed Hill took the heats.

In Open Wheel Mods it was Ed Newell leading at the start until Greg Reutimann took the lead on lap 3 and held off Wayne Hammond until lap 7. Hammond lead laps 7-10 when Reutimann grabbed the top spot only for one lap when he dropped out John Bradley went under Wayne Hammond to grab the top spot on lap 12 and never looked back as he grabbed the very popular win. Heats went to Hammond and Ed Newell.

Scotty Williams lead green to checker in the Mini Stocks to hold off 2002 Mini Stock Champion Dorsey Strickland, Chad Rose who started back in 16th, Wayne Williams and Jim Courson.

Heats went to Scotty Williams and Rick Partridge.

Hollie Smith lead the first 2 laps of the Street Stock A Main when Jeff Stewart took the top spot on lap 3 and held it until lap 8 when Tony Traina made the move, Traina dropped out on the next lap giving the lead back to Stewart who dropped out a lap later giving the lead to Jason Bronson who held the top sopot until lap 13 when 2002 Champ Mike Gamache grabbed it and cruise home the winner over Tim Hunt, Rob Hall, Eric Johson and D J Sanders.

Heats went to Bruyson Ryker, Jeff Stewart and Jason Bronson. The track will sit Idle next week, racing will resume with the 6 race Mr. Bud Series on August 24.
